Water company faces 35 percent rate hike at city hall

About 40 businessmen and executives attended a Monday night meeting at city hall to discuss Seymour Water Company's proposed 35 percent rate increase aimed at funding the Rockford dam, a flocculator, and a pension system. The plan, last updated in 1961, would adjust the rate base and improve capacity for growth and large industry. Hopkin and Hamlin answered questions from Mayor Laupus while noting the project would use a new flocculator once approved.

Woman Dies In Interstate 65 Crash Near Columbus

An Indianapolis woman, Julia Hill about 60, died at 5 25 a m when her car left Interstate 65 three miles south of Columbus. Driver Frank Pardue 30 and passenger Lucy Hargett 55 were injured and hospitalized. Pardue had passed a truck before the crash. The car left the road, went down a berm, rolled once, struck a post and stopped upright.

Whitcomb Nominated By GOP For Sec. Of State

Edgar D. Whitcomb a Seymour attorney and former state senator led on first ballot in a three way race for secretary of state at the Indiana GOP convention. Early tallies showed Whitcomb with 1 386 votes to Charles W Edwards 1 337 and May Berry Hurley notching 1 337. Delegates total 2 307, with 1 154 needed for nomination. Whitcomb backed by Beers and multiple districts.

County Council Approves Most County Appropriations

The Jackson County Council met at the Brownstown courthouse to approve emergency appropriations and transfers. They authorized funds for the county general, hospital, and bridge funds, with adjustments including salaries, equipment, and autopsy fees, sending the package to the State Board of Tax Commissioners for a further hearing within fifteen days.

SSHS Graduates Do Excellent At Three State Universities

Seymour Senior High School graduates who were freshmen at Ball State Purdue and Indiana University during 1965 66 posted strong first semester marks. Of 441 students 54 percent earned A or B grades and 9 percent earned C or above with 79 A 139 B 143 C 16 D and 11 F across Ball State Purdue and I U indicating solid preparation by the Seymour Community Schools.

Two Die and 40 Injured In Navy Bomber Crash

Rescue teams searched a Hampton suburb after a Marine Corps A6 Intruder collided midair with another bomber. Two killed a mother and her 19 month old son. 40 hurt and 11 hospitalized. Four Marines aboard ejected safely. The crash damaged ten homes and damaged seventeen more near Buckroe Beach.

Four-car collision injures two in Seymour on Monday

Police reported a five-vehicle rear end sequence on O’Brien street in Seymour Monday at 4 11 p m causing slight injuries to Chester White and Mrs Virginia Johnson. Damages totaled about 550 with Glen Shade charged for unsafe vehicle brakes.
