Traffic Toll In Post Area Rises To 40
The 1965 traffic toll in the Sey mour state police post area rose to 49 with the death of Bartholomew County man Ervin Houghland in a crash southeast of Columbus. Jerald Proffit's car hit Houghland's northbound truck at a two county road intersection with a stop sign. Proffitt and passenger Rita Sue Proffitt were injured. Troopers Dallas Norman Sigismund Stefankiewicz and Ronnie Miller investigated.

Two Youths Held For Michigan Authorities
Bruce Murphy 17 and Mike Salisbury 14, Kalamazoo, were held in Jackson County jail after fleeing a Kalamazoo detention home. A state highway employee aided in locating them in Seymour and Crothersville Indiana. The 1964 convertible with a stolen license plate was found and the youths were taken into custody after a traffic stop on U S 31.

Civil Air Patrol Test Declared Successful in Indiana Wing
The Indiana Wing CAP earned 91 of 100 points in a weekend Search and Rescue Effectiveness test. Capt. Jack Hildreth said Air Force evaluators found the wing's methods impressive as 100 members, including 56 cadets, participated in 50 flights from Seymour and Muncie.

Weekend Property Damage Accidents Probe by State Police
Jackson County saw three property damage accidents investigated by Seymour Post troopers over the weekend. Gerald A. March 21 Indianapolis Avenue pleaded guilty to leaving the scene and paid a 25 dollar fine plus 17.75 dollars costs. Dennis R Weber 23 West McDonald Street had 25 dollars damage to a 1961 auto after a truck struck it Friday night at the Stardust Drive In Theatre. A second collision on Starve Hollow Road and Ind 135 at 2 p.m. Sunday involved James Jones 17 and Sharon Nentrup 18 with 400 dollars and 200 dollars in damages respectively to their 1964 and 1958 autos. A third single vehicle crash at 7:45 a.m. Saturday on Ind 135 east of Medora involved William H. Smith 32 whose car was forced onto the north berm and struck a fence. the 1953 auto sustained 30 dollars damage.
