Jackson county farmers, out of 425 eligible, cast 129 ballots in favor of continuing market quotas for the 1958 wheat crop with 22 opposed and 12 challenged. National totals show 143,333 for and 28,833 against. If approved, quotas align with a 55 million acre allotment and support at about $1.78 per bushel.
Indiana Farmers Union President John C. Raber says farmers rejected Secretary Benson as they approve 1958 wheat marketing quotas. He urges President Eisenhower to replace the entire Agriculture Department staff, arguing for more farming understanding. Indiana support totaled 3930 to 1455, national totals 143333 to 28833.
Bartholomew county grand jury returned a reckless driving indictment against Florence Gaier of Columbus R8 for the June 11 wreck on U.S. 31 A that killed three Seymour youths, Nora Hobson, Thelma Hobson, and David Decker. Arraignment scheduled. potential fines and jail terms listed.

Notices were mailed to property owners affected by street improvement resolutions. Streets include Harrison Drive to Walnut Street, Seventh Street from Elm to the west line of Van Fange ditch, and Windhurst Court to Clyde Irwin’s property. Rev. Kenneth L. Swank, pastor of Gage Park Baptist Church in Topeka Kansas, will become minister at First Baptist Church of Seymour arriving in late July. He plans to preach his first sermon July 28 and will live at 1111 Gaiser Drive with his wife and two children. Swank holds B D and Th M degrees and is pursuing Th D. He has served in Missouri and Hawaii and was ordained in Hannibal. Dr. Alvin A. Cohn will supervise duties until Swank’s arrival.
Official forecast states 11:21 a m arrival marks end of a three day break in the heat. The Weather Bureau predicts five days ahead will run five degrees above normal with partly cloudy warm humid conditions tonight and Saturday. Sunday may cool late day with possible showers Sunday and Wednesday. Monday cooler then warmer again.
Miss Alice Mae Heller of Brownstown is awarded the Ninth District Legion Auxiliary scholarship gift of 100 dollars. Her high school scholastic rating and activities were noted as superior among applicants. She graduates with honors from Brownstown High School and plans to enter the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis this August.
A massive tornado struck Fargo North Dakota Thursday night killing nine people including six Munson children and injuring 85 others. The funnel cut a 20 by 5 block path through the residential area with several missing and a mother hospitalized. Lois Ann Munson age two died early morning. Police warned residents and radio stations issued tornado advisories as the storm moved on.
Local Mr and Mrs Lawrence Doerr of Fargo say their home survived with all windows gone and curtains shredded. Relatives from Crothersville Indianapolis and Fargo planned travel. six children in one family are dead. Don Tutgen and Mrs Max Kankelwitz identified among the dead. others missing. National Guard police and volunteers search the leveled area as over 200 homes were destroyed.
Glen H. Fill, injured by a 7200 volt line, is listed as fair at Schneck Memorial Hospital. He sustained first through third degree burns to chest and neck after a wet shirt and safety breaker limited the electric current.
