Funeral Rites Held for Widely Known Local Man
Funeral services for W. G. Geile, well known in the community, were held at Voss Mortuary at 2:30 this afternoon, with Rev. S M Hutchison and Rev. J Willard Yoder officiating. Burial followed at River View Cemetery. Geile, though in declining health, died suddenly while visiting Raleigh with his sons Wilford and Francis. He had once operated a tailor shop and served as an early city mail carrier.

Census statistics show literacy in Jackson County improved by 1930. Of 19,026 people over ten years old, 298 could not read or write, 295 counted as illiterate by enumerators, a rate of 1.6 percent, lower than 1920. Foreign born whites had 6 percent illiteracy. 287 native white Americans could not write beyond their name. no illiterates among 56 Black residents.
