A Columbus man Rex D Wheeler 23 died in a one car crash on U S 31 A near Columbus after likely dozing at 2 40 a m He was thrown from the car that struck a telephone pole and died of a broken neck and fractured skull. He worked at Cummins Engine Co and was a Nazarene church member. He was born February 14 1954 in Seymour and survived by his parents grandparents siblings and other relatives. Services set for 1 30 p m Wednesday at Voss Chapel with burial at Riverview Cemetery. State police report notes the crash location eight miles south of Columbus between Waynesville and Jonesville.

Storm disrupts Jackson County as trees fall and power flickers
A summer storm moved through Jackson County on Saturday causing traffic delays on Interstate 65. A tree limb struck a car in Seymour, brick chimney toppled, and about 15 homes lost power briefly in the Clearspring area. Several neighborhoods reported heavy rain and power outages lasting up to five hours, with cable service affected in parts of Seymour. Temperature reached 87 with 61 low. White River at 1.5 feet and falling.

Three people were injured in Jackson County weekend crashes. Greenwood motorcycle rider Harry A. Kay Jr. and his 15 year old niece Cathie Green were hurt when their bike hit a bridge railing on Ind 135 near Freetown. A Nashville Tennessee man, George Segars, suffered whiplash after his car struck a bridge on I 65 south of Seymour. An Indianapolis man, Joseph E Kruger, escaped injury when his van hit three trees on Becks Grove Road in Brown County.
