Nixon Hopes To Withdraw More Troops In Vietnam

President Nixon expressed hope for substantial U S troop withdrawals from Vietnam by year end 1970 with further reductions possible after a June summit. He warned inflation actions may show effects in 2 3 months and commented on New York City mayoral races and public order. He also noted there were no current plans for wage price controls.

County Youth Is Elected President of Indiana FFA

Loni Stuckwish a 19 year old Jackson county youth who farms 400 acres was elected 1969 70 president of the Indiana Association of Future Farmers of America. He has served as district XI FFA president and held offices in Brownstown Central. Other state officers include David Rodibaugh Gary Eglef John Shaffer William Ticen Terrence Johnson and Roger Bommer. District XI officers were also named.

Train Hits Truck Ends Near Miss For Seymour Man

A diesel engine struck a one ton stake truck at the Brown street crossing in Seymour injuring no one. The truck, driven by 76 year old Carl E. Fox, halted against a six by six wooden guard post and rail, likely preventing serious injury or death. Four accidents were reviewed by city police. Officer Charles W. Freeman led the investigation.

Truck Train Collision Near Brown Street Crossing

At 2 32 p m a truck leaving Brown street crossing struck by a switch engine. Delbert Hercamp said the engine bumped the right front fender, causing $300 damage to the truck and $100 to the engine. The guard rail repair cost was about $50. A boy escaped serious injury in a later bicycle crash on South Vine street.

Heavy North Vietnamese Run At Tay Ninh Fizzles

More than 500 North Vietnamese troops attacked Firebase Ike near Tay Ninh City 15 miles north of Saigon. U S casualties totaled seven killed and 18 wounded with 75 enemy dead in fierce fighting. The operation failed to seize Tay Ninh despite shelling 40 outposts and heavy air bombardment.

Jaycees Name LeTendre President At National Convention

Andre E. LeTendre of Wausau Wisconsin was named president of the United States Jaycees at the 49th annual convention in Louisville Kentucky. He won acclamation on the eighth ballot after defeating A Kirk Downing of Buffalo New York and W Skip Durndrk of Normal Illinois. Ten vice presidents were elected earlier with Paul Houghland Jr Seymour among them and assigned five states each to coordinate national activities. Scottsburg Jaycees received a third place national award for building a new Little League baseball park as the convention wrapped with a state Jaycee presidents meeting and luncheon.

Local Summer Vocational Workshop Hits Week Two

Teachers from Seymour and adjacent towns continue a three week program at Seymour High School earning graduate credit. The second week featured plant tours in Seymour and Columbus with discussions after each visit. A VIEW program shown by 3M's Jim Wattring capped the week at the high school library.
