Walter Dick Hyatt, a mail carrier, forced his car into a telephone pole to avoid hitting four year old Bobby Phillips on state road 31 south of the city. Hyatt escaped injury as the vehicle lay on its side in a deep roadside ditch until a wrecker lifted it free. A crowd gathered at the scene Tuesday evening.
