Two Killed Six Hurt In Scott Co Mishap

Two people died and six were seriously injured in a head on collision on Indiana 56 three miles east of Scottsburg. Albert Whitaker 27 and his wife Carol 21 were killed. John Shepherd of Scottsburg drove the other car and is in critical condition along with four passengers Willie Gibson Baige Asher Edith Gilbertson and Mrs. Edith Gilbertson.

State seeks to ban parking on U S 50

The Indiana board of public works weighs moving up the parking ban on U S 50 west from the railroad tracks to July 1 to allow lane markings for the resurfacing project from O'Brien street to Bedford. City officials would notify property owners and report back at the next meeting.

Indianapolis Jaycees leader named top ten vice president

Paul Houghland Jr. of Seymour was named one of 10 vice presidents of the United States Jaycees at the 49th annual convention in Louisville. He finished 10th in balloting with 2,598 votes, 679 more than the 11th place candidate and currently serves as president of the Indiana Jaycees.

Henry Schacht Named Cummins President and Director

Henry B. Schacht, 34, elected president of Cummins Engine Co and member of the board. He was group vice president of international and subsidiary operations and a former vice president of finance. E. Don Tull, 62, elected chairman of the executive committee. Tull has led Cummins since 1960 and joined the company in 1928.

Guard Atterbury training for Seymour unit two weeks

Six officers and 180 enlisted men of Seymour Company B First Battalion Mechanized 151st Infantry Indiana National Guard will train two weeks at Camp Atterbury August 2 to 16. The unit will convoy from Freeman Field at 7 a.m. August 2 and return August 16. Public invited to the Separate Command Review August 8 at 5 p.m.

New Landfill Limited to Rural Residents in Jackson County

Jackson County approves a new landfill restricted to rural residents. Town residents of Seymour Browns Town Medora and Crothersville must continue using municipal facilities. The site east of Ind 135 along County Road 390 North is to be operated under State Board of Health rules with daily soil cover and on-site staffing.

Rose Acre Farms near Acme reports a 368 by 54 foot wing of the Eggacres complex collapsed during construction. No injuries. 20 to 30 workers present. salvage of some trusses possible. Park Board approves field use and buys equipment

The Seymour park board authorized exclusive use of Gaiser Park softball diamond for a June 20–22 invitational tournament with gate charges to fund park improvements. They also approved spending 150 dollars for catchers’ equipment for a new youth baseball program and requested community help for westside park development.
