Jackson to Host 18 County Farm Leaders Meeting
Jackson county will host a statewide farm leaders meeting on Monday June 27 in Brownstown. The gathering will draw representatives from 18 southeastern Indiana counties and cover wheat marketing quotas storage sanitation storage facility loans and price support operations. State ASC officials will outline committee responsibilities and producer roles in grain storage. The session opens at 9 30 a m and will run through the day with expected attendance well over 100 people.

Sey mour Lodge No 462 Elks will honor top race driver Pat O Connor of North Vernon at a 7 30 p m appreciation dinner at the Elks Home Wednesday. The stag dinner is run by committee members James L Laupus James Deputy William Herwig and K B Beatty with Beatty as general chairman. Tickets are available from committee members or Stanley Combs. O Connor finished eighth in the 1955 Indianapolis 500 after a 65 cent part cost him four minutes. Invitations have been sent to Tony Hulman and the car owner O Connors drove this year.

Vehicle safety checks advised for Crothersville and Modora
County residents in Crothersville and Medora are reminded of voluntary vehicle safety checks next week. American Legion Post 89 will run the program in Crothersville Tuesday night 6:30 to 8 near the US 31 light and in Modora Wednesday 6 to 7:30 on Main Street. State police seek the driver of a car that left the scene after a minor collision at the intersection of Alternate U S Road 31 and Rockford road Friday night. Frank Mattox, 43, drove a 1955 sedan south. the other vehicle, which attempted a left turn, fled after Mattox left to call police. About $300 damage to the Mattox car. the other car, believed from Bartholomew county, sustained little damage.

Driver Fined After Collision on Road 31
One driver was fined after a minor collision on U S Road 31 two miles north of Reddington. Stanley Padgett, 22, Waynesburg, Ky., was fined $1 and costs for reckless driving. Padgett’s 1955 sedan followed William Carr’s 1955 sedan. Padgett pulled out and struck Carr from behind. Damage was slight. Trooper Frank B. Gray investigated.
