At the Indiana State Highway Commission office bids for two Jackson County deck reconstructions on the I 65 bridge over U S 50 and the B and O Railroad bridge were not below estimate and must be re advertised in July. Other awards include a $1 371 416.99 bid for a new B O Bridge on Ind 56 in Scott County and a $129 376 75 bid for deck reconstruction on Ind 450 in Bedford.

Driver Charged After Night crash Injures Two
Two Bartholomew County men, Ronald G. Alvey and Arthur G. Alvey of Columbus R6, were injured when a 1971 two door auto left West Tipton street, struck a utility pole and mailbox at 11 49 p m. The elder Alvey was charged with driving while intoxicated. Damages were extensive with a $1200 estimate.

Hospital Sets Rate Increase at Schneck Memorial Hospital
Jackson County hospital administrator George H. James announced a 6.9 percent rate increase, approved June 13 by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Rate Review Committee, effective June 23. Semi private rooms rise to 72, private to 76, four bed ward to 70, pediatric to 75, with ancillary charges up 6.9 percent due to higher utilities, liability insurance, and supply costs. The last statewide rate hike occurred June 15, 1976.

Conservationists Seek Fish For Fair Display

Three men and a woman were held without bail on murder kidnapping and armed robbery charges after a hostage taking at a Lansing Michigan bank. Computer Error Delays Shuttle Enterprise Test Flight
Edwards Air Force Base California reports a computer failure postponing the first manned test flight of the Space Shuttle Enterprise by 24 hours. Commander Fred Haise Jr and pilot Gordon Fullerton prepare for a dress rehearsal atop a Boeing 747 with systems checked for in-flight operation. The mission will monitor maneuvering, control, and hydraulic systems during a test ascent to about 15 000 feet under Houston Mission Control guidance. Haise is an Apollo 13 veteran. Fullerton has long been active in the astronaut program since 1969.

Mother Wins Civil Trial Over Son’s Death Damages
Mrs Phyllis McCluskey won a civil trial in Jackson Circuit Court against driver Oscar H. Hammond for the death of her eight year old son Bally in Bedford on November 11 1973. A 12 member jury awarded $10000 after hearing the case from Judge Robert R Brown. The suit had previously ended with a hung jury in Washington County.
