Vernon Forks Conservancy District Public Hearing Nears

Hoosier Soldier Richard Cable Killed in Vietnam Action
Army Spec. 4 Richard A. Cable, son of Grace M. Cable of Shelbyville Indiana, was killed in Vietnam. He was the 299th Hoosier to die in the Vietnam conflict according to the Defense Department report issued Friday.

City Employee Cut By Metal in Early Morning Incident
A city employee was slightly injured and treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital after a metal cut his arm while loading scrap tin onto a city truck around 8 am. Monroe’s Beaches Open at Fairfax and Paynetown
Monroe Reservoir beaches at Fairfax and Paynetown southeast of Bloomington reopen today after high water and cleanup delays. The 0.5 mile Fairfax beach and the new 1,100 foot Paynetown site will operate 10 am to 8 pm with 35 cent car admission and 20 cents per person, under 12 free. County Council Eyeing 1967 Budget Additions in Brownstown
Jackson County Council plans a 9 a m Monday special session at the Brownstown courthouse to review 1967 budget additions and transfers. Proposed general fund increases total 14 138 95 including 8 000 for courthouse renovations and funds for auditor prosecutor board of education circuit court and other offices. A 3 000 bridge repair item plus 5 900 for Whit Bridge replacement and 300 for health department improvements are listed with 5 300 in general fund and 300 in health fund reductions. Final appropriations go to the State Board of Tax Commissioners with a 15 day hearing window. taxpayers may inquire at the county auditor’s office.
