Jackson County council to meet in special session at 9 a.m. Monday to consider emergency appropriations. Transfers and new allocations include 2700 for surveyor extra help, 600 per township for trustee per diem, 3650 for plat books, 4213 for change of venue, 3391 for Quade ditch, totaling 24773.75 in county general fund. welfare fund items total 19700.

The 48 day May term of Jackson Circuit Court will end Saturday June 24 with Judge John M. Lewis dismissing the petit jury venire. An adjourned term will begin June 26 and run through September 30 to handle pending business and trials. Forty prospective jurors will be drawn June 19 by the jury commissioners.
Russell C. Butt, current superintendent of Jackson County schools, is appointed to the Brownstown town board of trustees to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Chester Holeman. Butt will serve beginning July 1, with a new board president to be chosen at the July 7 meeting.
A 16 year old Seymour youth escaped injury about 1 45 a m today in a one car accident on the Seymour Waymansville road about 2 4 miles south of the Jackson Bartholomew County line. Lawrence N Barkes 145 Marshall Drive was operating a 1955 model sedan south on the road when he apparently went to sleep. The automobile ran off the road struck a stump slid across the road and off on the east side of the county road going up a five foot embankment before it stopped. A Crothersville man escaped injury at 7 p m Friday night when his 1960 model sedan went partly over an embankment on a county road one mile west and one mile south of Crothersville. Harold C Hull 54 511 Seymour road told Trooper Dale Swider of the Seymour state police post who investigated that he met another automobile on a curve and lost control of his car in loose gravel the car going onto the berm on the west side coming to rest with its front wheels down an embankment. Damage to the car was estimated at about 30.
Nine Jackson County youths depart for Indiana University to attend the annual Hoosier Boys State sponsored by the American Legion Department. Readying to participate are Ray Shortridge Edmund Louden James Sparks Ronny Unger Dwight Fisher Joseph Persinger Thomas Zabel John Murphy John Woolf. They will be assigned to a mythical party and city on registration day.
Immanuel Lutheran School Seymour hosts a series of teacher workshops for about 120 Southern Indiana Kentucky Ohio Conference members August 22 to 24. Dr. Ernest E. Vaughans directs the Central District sessions with more than 15 workshops planned for Fort Wayne and Concordia Senior College. The event features Primary Teachers led by Miss Morella Mensing and Audio-Visual Methods led by Arthur L. Amt, with Language Arts led by E H Ruprecht. delegates will be housed in local motels.

Robert Downing thirty of Seymour was freed on five hundred dollar bond Friday after being charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He was arrested Thursday night by city police in an alleged attack on his ex wife Mrs Mabel Downing. The victim was struck on the head with a beer bottle at the tavern owned by Frank King in the 100 block of Indianapolis Avenue.
