Redding Township Volunteer Fire Department paid the first deposit on a 1953 Autocar pumper truck with a 1600 gallon tank. The group plans a fire station built by volunteer labor on land donated by the Reddington Youth Organization adjacent to U S 31. a chicken barbecue is slated for June 25 to bolster funds as work continues. Indiana volunteers and fire officials discussed joining the state association and expanded training programs at the meeting in the Reddington Youth Center.

Swails died at Schneck Memorial Hospital at 4 40 a m age 85 of 606 North Walnut street He had been ill after a head injury suffered Tuesday He was a longtime attorney and former Jackson County judge who later served as prosecuting attorney and a state legislator Funeral services are set for 2 pm Monday at Burkholder Funeral Home with burial in Riverview Cemetery He was born April 17 1875 in Acton Indiana and began law practice in Seymour in 1900 He retired from practice in 1959 and had a six year tenure as judge from 1912 to 1918.

A fire of undetermined origin destroyed the casino restaurant at the El Rancho Vegas Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip early today.
