A brief gale tore the rear roof of Seymour Woolen Mills, soaking raw and finished blankets on the second and first floors. Damage estimates hover near 3000 dollars as repairs rush to resume production by Tuesday morning.
Harold Grelle age twenty of Seymour Cubs was injured in a Sunday game against Waymansville. He was struck on the left head above the ear while at bat and remained unconscious in Schneck Memorial Hospital with possible skull fracture.
Funeral services for James H. Demaree aged sixty one longtime Baltimore and Ohio railroad employee were conducted at the residence on North Ewing Street this afternoon by Rev Clarence A Shake. Burial followed at Riverview cemetery.
Seymour Lions Club members and families join Lions from Browns Town Scottsboro Salem Bedford and other Southern Indiana cities for a river boat trip aboard the steamer America leaving Jeffersonville wharf at 8 30 p m. more than 20 local members will attend and President T O Plimmer will announce Walmer J Meker as district governor for southeastern Indiana.
George Heintz age died at 11:30 this morning at his home on North Mall Street after a long illness with heart disease He was a lifelong resident of Seymour and longtime baker He served on the city council and was active in local civic groups He is survived by his wife Carrie Hollenbeck a son Julius an adopted daughter Hazel Myers two sisters Elizabeth Drago and Mrs William Carr and two grandchildren Funeral services are set for Wednesday afternoon
Funeral services for Orville Cox thirty six were held at Nazarene church Sunday afternoon at 2 30 conducted by Rev L O Gireen. He died when logs fell from the wagon he was driving at Dupont last week and crushed him. Burial followed in Chestnut Ridge cemetery.
A Sunday night downpour totaling 1.3 inches ends a long Jackson County drought. Farmers report improved moisture aiding corn, wheat, oats, potatoes, tomatoes, and beans. Early potatoes and tomato beds benefit as ground becomes cultivable again.
Jackson County shows 262 unemployed at census time, with rural areas low and centers industrial. Curtis Broucher, census supervisor, releases preliminary figures from Vernon to Crothersville townships, noting later updates for nonworking groups and temp layoff cases.
The Farmers Bank at Freetown closed after an attempted robbery reported Saturday. In Jackson circuit court on Saturday afternoon the trial of Manse Fleetwood for petit larceny was halted when the jury could not agree. The jurors stood eight for acquittal and four for conviction and were dismissed. The case may be refiled in October.
George Washington, an Indianapolis man, is held in Scott county jail on murder charges as the grand jury starts sessions to probe the killing of Edward Pierson, Negro auditor of the National Baptist Convention, whose body was found in the Muscatatuck River. Rev. B. F. J. Westbrook and A. M. Townsend are jailed on $10,000 bonds amid the investigation. Townsend, auditor of a Nashville bank, is accused of aiding Washington for $3,000. he denies paying him. Pierson, returning from Nashville to Chicago, had flagged a discrepancy in a Baptist publishing board audit of loan funds.
Sunday marked the start of Indiana’s open fishing season for black bass silver bass nine gills yellow perch pike perch pickerel red eared sunfish and crappies. The season runs through April 30 1931 with 63 game wardens enforcing rules and no fishing allowed on Sunday.

Three Chicago residents died when an army plane struck their sedan near Robey Speedway in Robertsdale. passengers Peter Brockman 50 Catherine Brockman 45 Virginia Sterling 3 killed. pilot Wilson V. Newhall 28 survived.
Pittsburgh police stopped a robbery similar to two previous heists last week and recovered $2300. Messenger John D Stadff of South Mills Trust Co. was robbed near the bank. the culprits fled to McKees Rocks and were captured within an hour. One suspect claimed to be Lee Williams of Cleveland. his license bore Tf LL Pennington Pittsburgh.

Coast guard searches for eight Toledoans missing after an empty speed boat was found on Lake Erie during a Saturday outing to Pelee Island. The missing include Charles H. A National Guard pursuit plane failed to gain altitude during takeoff in heavy rain and crashed into a crowded highway near Hammond Indiana, killing three occupants of a car and injuring a fourth. Witnesses said the wreck demolished the sedan and struck additional vehicles. Victims were Mr. and Mrs. Peter Brockman and their two year old granddaughter Virginia Sterling.
