Indiana studies short grass to curb highway mowing
The Indiana State Highway Commission and Purdue University, with federal support, launched a 1965 joint project to breed a short bluegrass mix. Five pounds of seed will seed about five acres at a seed farm for fall 1976 planting, aiming to cut mowing across 36 000 acres by contractors this summer and next year.

Funeral services set for David Sherrill 19
Funeral services for David Arthur Sherrill of Medora will be held at Spurgeon Funeral Home in Brownstown Sunday at 2 p.m. He was killed in a Mt. Washington construction accident while operating a backhoe that contacted a power line. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery. Sherrill, a Purdue pharmacy student and Browns Town Central graduate, is survived by his parents, three sisters, and grandparents.

Greencastle special judge William Lienberger says a ruling on William Browns motion for retrial is expected in a few days. Brown, 62, of Rushville, has spent 42 years in prison after pleading guilty in 1931 for the murder of a Rushville policeman, winning a 1953 retrial before a jury deliberated 13 minutes. He argued Friday that his two defense lawyers were ineffective and failed to call the proper witnesses.
