John W Kellam 17-year-old Shields High senior and son of Mrs Rachel Kellam 624 North Walnut Street is a delegate to Hoosier Boys State in Indianapolis at the State School for the Deaf. He was chosen by Seymour Post 89 American Legion to seek the State Auditor post on the Federalist ticket but lost to Robert Dyer Bedford on the Nationalist ticket. About 418 teenage boys attend this year’s session sponsored by the American Legion to teach youths how government works. the Indiana Department has sponsored the program for 14 years.

Six Herefords Killed by Lightning Near Here
Six cows from a herd owned by Donald Schneider and Seymour R3 were struck and killed by lightning during a thunderstorm. The Herefords were grazing under a single tree in a woods pasture when the bolt hit.

Farmers Urged to Watch for Corn Borer Infestation
Purdue University experts urged Jackson county and statewide farmers to monitor corn for the corn borer over the coming weeks. In Bartholomew county A V Keesling reported eggs on leaf undersides resembling fish scales and tiny shot holes in leaves. They advised spraying borers though moth emergence will be limited then with peak in central Indiana within five days and northern Indiana a week later.

Veterans may enter under the GI Bill and must enroll by July 25 to preserve benefits. He was shot while target shooting near Commiskey on a farm owned by Culty Callahan, and an investigation is being conducted by Technician Harold E. Chambers.

Arnold J. Perrigo, father of Eugene Perrigo, died Thursday at his Milroy home. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Saturday in Milroy. A former school teacher, he monitored his son's broadcasting for 11 years at the Seymour state police radio station. Surviving relatives include his widow.

In Indianapolis on June 15 the State Personnel Board sustained the dismissal of two Welfare Department employees. George L. Diven, director of staff services, and Evan L. Parker, former chief hearing officer, were notified their firings were upheld. Diven was labeled insubordinate and inefficient, Parker cited for absenteeism and lack of dependability. Noblitt Teen Undergoes Surgery After Road Accident
Max Wayne Noblitt 17 son of Mr and Mrs Arch Noblitt Seymour R4 underwent surgery Thursday at St Vincent s Hospital Indianapolis for a leg nerve injury after a chrome bumper cut his leg. He has been in a cast for a week and will stay in room 204 for several weeks as friends are urged to write.

Fire traps 10 in Catholic home in Montreal blaze
A devastating Montreal fire at the St. Cunegonde Catholic hospice traps ten residents and leaves at least two dead. Nuns led about 200 children to safety as firefighters brought the five story building under control within hours. Dozens of elderly, many blind, remained on upper floors when the flames began. The blaze is believed to have started in an elevator shaft.
