10 Year Growth Program Aimed at Jackson County Fairgrounds

Jackson County Fair officials outlined a 10-year growth plan for Brownstown grounds. The seven point program, costing $100,000 to $150,000, includes more parking, a hog barn, cattle facilities, expanded sanitation, a large manufacturer’s building, grandstand expansion, and a permanent FFA building. A voluntary $10 weekly parking pass near the 4 H building would fund much of the work, with proceeds split between improvements and other fair funds. The board took a land option on 12 to 15 acres south of the grounds to add parking starting in 1968 and cited last year’s near-capacity attendance of 34 269 on a Friday night.
