Crothersville Festival Parade Ends With Colorful Entries
The Crothersville Red White and Blue Festival Parade drew over 40 entries featuring antique cars majorettes horses and floats. Bethany Bomber 4H Group won best float while Crothersville Cub Scouts Troop 722 placed second and Crothersville Future Farmers of America third. Judges from Seymour Brownstown and Medora named multiple winners including the Tri County Shrine Club for best entry and notable bands and horse divisions.

Nine County Youths Leave For Boys State
Nine county youths left Saturday to attend the Hoosier Boys State at Indiana State University Terre Haute sponsored by the American Legion. Attendees from Seymour include Chag Galloway Chris Kleber Dan Thomas Greg Zarick and more with sponsors from local posts Lions Clubs and businesses. Additional youths from Brownstown Crothersville Medora Austin Columbus joined the statewide leadership program.

Bloodhounds End Ray's Escape at Brushy Mountain
James Earl Ray was tracked down by two bloodhounds Sandy and Little Red after a 54 hour escape from Brushy Mountain State Prison. He was found in a leaves pile during a three hour pursuit, five miles from the prison, and arrested without resistance. Donald Ray Caylor was captured in Oak Ridge. one fugitive, Douglas Shelton, remained at large. Authorities called the capture a major Tennessee manhunt ending with Ray back in custody.

Seymour Chamber Chief Resigns After Five Years
Larry Krukewitt, executive director of the Seymour Chamber of Commerce, resigned at the June board meeting effective Aug. 1 after five years of leadership. He cited community support and teamwork as key factors in the chamber’s achievements, including 64 new retail businesses and a 25 percent rise in industrial employment.

Local Youth Attend FFA State Meet at Purdue University
Jackson County youths joined about 1,300 Future Farmers of America members at Purdue University for the 48th annual state convention running Tuesday to Thursday. Activities include leadership contests, funding events, and interviews for state office candidates with two delegates from each chapter. Bruce Maloch, national FFA secretary, participates.

More than 40 people attended a Sunday preview at Seymour Public Library of a 19 piece initial sculpture collection. Pieces may be checked out for four weeks and replicas of museum works span world regions and styles. Unchecked works are at the Swope Art Gallery. Photos of all items are available at the circulation desk and a picture catalog moves to the Crothersville branch library periodically.
