Three Slightly Hurt In Mishaps In Jackson County
Three persons were slightly injured in two one car accidents in western Jackson County late Friday night. Paul Persinger 18 Medora and Arnold Harrison 16 Medora were treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital after Persinger’s 1950 model car left State Road 135 near Wallonia and overturned against a utility pole. Harrison was released. Persinger remained under treatment. A second crash on U S Highway 50 near Medora Junction left Harry Dodds with head cuts. Trooper Robert Konkle investigated.

Camp Atterbury will close by June 30 1954 per Army plans. Local Seymour residents employed civilian jobs at the camp and some soldier families live in Seymour. Officials say the closure should not seriously impact the city or reduce population. Homer Vinn Seymour Chamber of Commerce manager says local industries can absorb workers. Estimates of resident workers at the camp range from about 150 to several hundred. Bevers Receives Bronze Star for Korea Service
Carl A. Bevers of Seymour Indiana received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in Korea from December 5 1951 to December 7 1952 while serving as a Field Wireman with the Artillery U S Army. He entered the Army March 14 1951 and was released January 16 1953. He is married to Dorothy M Bevers and son of Ralph and the late Mrs. Bevers. He attended Shields High School and belongs to the K P Lodge.

A truck weight check conducted from 10 a.m. to midnight at the permanent pit scales on U S Road 31 east of Seymour resulted in three arrests. Brother of Mrs. Loertz Drowns While Fishing in Illinois
Dr. Leo C. Clowes of Hinsdale Illinois, brother of Mrs. C E Loertz of Columbus and formerly of this city, drowned Wednesday afternoon while fishing at his country home on the Fox River. He fell from the bank into the river as a recent flood raged. Flood gates opened and he was carried downstream as authorities dragged the water in hopes of recovery.
