Woman reports purse missing from home
City police investigated the theft of a woman's purse from her home. Minnie Cornett of 618 West Jackson Street reported the loss at 3.04 a.m. The purse held $42.38, a billfold, key case and keys, and reading glasses. Entry was through an unlocked door while she slept.

Black Squirrel Becomes Gaiser Park's New Resident
Mrs. Ellis Hawn presented a jet black squirrel named Shelly to Gaiser Park in Seymour on Sunday. The animal, similar in size to a red squirrel but rarer outside Michigan, was obtained in Battle Creek where trapper A. B. Chanell has captured over 100 black squirrels this spring.

Austin Man Is Freed In Death Of Woman
A 28-year-old Austin tree trimmer was released by Scott County authorities after being held on suspicion of murder in the May 27 disappearance and death of Martha Smith 27 of Austin. The body was found four days later in White Oak Bayou after investigators found missing underclothing and shoes in his car. The grand jury adjourned without indictments.

Two Autos Damaged on Indiana 235 Collision
A Saturday crash on Ind. 235 one mile north of Medora damaged two cars totaling 1050. Glenda Sharon Potter age 18 of Medora and Charles William Wilson age 23 of Brownstown were involved. Potter attempted a left turn from a private drive, Wilson's southbound car struck the Potter sedan in the right rear. Potter's damage $350. Wilson's $700.

Paul Martin Named County Commissioner in Jackson County
Paul Martin of Norman RI was named commissioner of Jackson County from the third district to fill the unexpired term of Charles T. Cummings. Martin, a Democrat, will serve through December 31, 1963, after unanimous approval by the county board. Cummings resigned to become rural mail carrier on Norman Route 1. Lightning strikes boy and dog in Indianapolis yard
In Indianapolis a 13 year old boy and his 2 year old cocker spaniel were struck by a bolt as they played in the front yard. The boy sustained burns while the dog died at the scene. Father Roy W. Five Hurt As Wisconsin Family Plane Crashes Near Bloomington
A single engine plane carrying Florian Laper 41 and his family from Wisconsin ran out of fuel and crashed in a field near Whitehall west of Bloomington Indiana injuring five. Laper possibly fractured his back. the others suffered cuts bruises and shock. The plane struck a tree during an attempted landing three miles from Kisters Field. The family was en route to Florida and the plane was bought five days earlier.
