End of 51 Tomato Crop Nearing Completion in Jackson County
The 1951 tomato crop in Jackson County is nearing completion with most acreage contracted in western Jackson by the Brownstown Morgan Packing Company and Wallonia Canning Company. Contracts show prices up to 35 dollars a ton on grade, or 30 dollars flat for some farmers, with earlier plantings sourced from the south. Brownstown also contracts sweet corn, and Wallonia plans substantial tomato acreage. Seymour's Vincennes Packing plant has not operated recently. Turn to page 4, column 3.

John Ferguson 60 Dies in Jackson County
John Ferguson 60 lifelong Jackson county resident died Monday at his daughter Mrs Claude Edwards home on a Freetown rural route after a three week illness. Born Salt Creek township March 10 1891 he was son of William and Mary Kinworthy Ferguson now deceased. Survived by wife Manda J Warner and five stepchildren a brother Sam Ferguson of Sandborn and a sister Mrs Myrtle Elkins of Wallonia. Funeral at 2 PM Wednesday Kurtz Church of the Nazarene with Rev E T Scott in charge. Burial Kurtz Cemetery. Friends may call at Edwards residence near Freetown.

Woman injured in crash at Tipton and Poplar streets
A Columbus woman was injured in a late night collision at Tipton and Poplar as Leslie Samuel Crockett driving a 1929 sedan turned left onto Poplar and intersected a westbound 1941 Rothrock sedan driven by Harry Marshall Rothrock. The Crockett car suffered major front damage. Rothrock's vehicle sustained about 250 dollars in damage. Mrs. Lillian Rothrock, 24, suffered possible rib fractures and was taken to Schneck Memorial Hospital.

Icing blamed for eight jet crashes over Indiana
The Air Force, FBI, and manufacturers found no sabotage after icing of engine inlets caused eight F 84 Thunderjets to crash minutes after takeoff from Wright Patterson field. Mrs. Nora Ann Denny 80 of Cortland died at her country home near Freetown after a brief illness. Funeral at 2 pm Wednesday from the Freetown Methodist Church with Rev. C. W. Taylor and Rev. Jack Travelstead officiating. Burial in Freetown Cemetery. She was lifelong Jackson County resident born February 18 1871, married George F. Denny in 1893, and is survived by four children two brothers and a stepbrother. The family home is northeast of Freetown and services were announced by local church and civic groups.

Controls To Stay Declares Price Rollbacks Stay
Mobilization Chief Charles E. Wilson said there is no plan to relax the 10 percent cattle price rollback or the 4 percent rollbacks set for August and October.
