Several state cases were dismissed and one man charged with second offense drunken driving pleaded guilty in Jackson Circuit Court at Brownstown. Elmer Smith of Tampico was fined 117.80 with six months at the state penal farm. sentence suspended if he abstains from alcohol and his license may be suspended six months. A prior not guilty plea had been entered. trial set for June 11. The state dropped the Seymour Tool and Engineering Company nuisance case.

Funeral services were held for Dr. Oscar George Salb 59 research chemist and vice president of Injectables Research Corporation at Blackwell Funeral Home and SS Peter and Paul Cathedral. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery. A Jasper born Purdue graduate and St Louis College of Physicians and Surgeons MD holder he moved to Indianapolis 11 years ago to join Hoosier Pharmacal Company later forming his firm. Survived by widow and two daughters.

Man Fined $30 for Speeding in 50 mph Zone
Don Ude, Seymour R3, pleaded guilty in city court to operating a motor vehicle 50 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone on Ewing street. Mayor Donald L. Herwig presided. He was fined 20 dollars plus 1 dollar per mile over the limit and 10 dollars in costs after being cited Wednesday night by city police.

Joseph Stewart Retires After 48 Years With B&O Railroad
Joseph Stewart, 307 North Broadway, retires after 48 years of service with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. He began as a fireman May 11, 1900, became an engineer September 6, 1906, and spent the last 18 years in passenger service. Schwellenbach Dies In Walter Reed Hospital
Secretary of Labor Lewis B. Schwellenbach, 53, a former Senator and federal judge, died at Walter Reed Hospital after a long illness. President Truman called Schwellenbach a warm personal friend and noted his many roles. Funeral plans were not yet set as of the report.

Body Found In Cave South of Shelbyville
A badly decomposed body found by campers in a cave along Flat Rock river ten miles south of Shelbyville was identified as Robert Rutherford, 66. His brother William identified the body and said Rutherford, a nature lover, often lived outdoors, sometimes in the same cave. Coroner E A Porter said Rutherford likely died of pneumonia contracted while living in the cave, about three months prior.
