Youth Killed in Crash on U.S. 50 Near Jackson-Lawrence Line
An 18 year old Richard Lee Coulter of Brownstown R2 died from massive head injuries after a late night crash on U S 50 just east of the Jackson Lawrence county line. His father Donald R Coulter 40 Brownstown R2 and passenger June A Ault 46 Seymour were injured. The car overturned striking a tree after veering left of center. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence. Funeral plans for Coulter will be announced.

Finley Named New Principal at Shields Junior High
Jerry Finley, current director of buildings, grounds and transportation, will become Shields Junior High principal on Aug. 1, replacing Joe Pitman who retired. He holds degrees from Indiana State University and Indiana University, taught at Shields for six years, and has led district facilities for five years. The board approved expanded special education and reported on elementary construction and property interests related to Washington Elementary and Freeman Field.

Two Fill Terms On City Posts
Mayor Donald H. Ernest announced two appointments to fill unexpired terms on the Seymour board of zoning appeals and the Seymour plan commission. Harry H. Luedeman will replace Wesley Guffey on the zoning appeals board, and Marshal Howard will replace George Graessle on the plan commission. Terms expire December 31.

Jones Murder Trial Begins In Bedford Court
Prospective jurors were questioned on the first day of the Jones murder trial in Lawrence Circuit Court at Bedford. Robert Paul Jones, 32, of Columbus, faces three counts of first degree murder for the Nov 9 shooting deaths of Tybith Campbell, James Malone, and Leslie M. Crum in Columbus.

Joint Concert Honors Area Band Directors in Seymour Park
About 150 people attended a Seymour Community Band and Choir concert held outside the SHS auditorium steps to revive the park concert tradition. The band performed selections including Con moto ra Overture and Minnesota March, with audience favorites Walt Disney Overture and Three Blind Mice. The choir presented Which Way America and Oh Sinner Man among others, with solo by Paula Shelton. The event honored past and present area band directors, including Frank Cofield and Walters, former Seymour directors. The band plans more outdoor concerts at 7:30 p.m. every other Tuesday with no admission. Rhonda Bur.

Four area residents were taken to Jackson County Sehneck Memorial Hospital after a Tuesday afternoon two-vehicle crash at Tipton Street and Jackson Park Drive. Police investigated three accidents totaling 3,375 dollars in property damage. Ernest L. Monroe, 30, Norman RI, was the driver of a 1970 two door auto and was hospitalized.

Browns town Central Community Schools board opened four bus supply bids two fuel oil bids one coal bid and one washing bid and will decide at the July meeting.
