Kiewitt Named Director of Vernon Forks District
Richard Kiewitt of Seymour R3 was appointed director of the Vernon Forks Conservancy District by Jennings Circuit Court Judge Eugene Hough. He joined the board June 3 as it voted to sponsor water treatment facilities for Reservoir No 1 and the North Fork system extending from North Vernon to Millhousen. SIECO engineers plan the regional water supply including a treatment plant and 210 miles of rural pipeline serving western Riley, eastern Jennings, and parts of Decatur counties with Greensburg seeking additional supply. The district seeks endorsements from the three Soil and Water Conservation Districts as it advances a three-reservoir plan in series on the North Fork.

Speeder Jailed On Three Charges In Seymour Court
Seymour man James Williams, 25, pleaded guilty to three charges after a high speed chase reaching 100 mph. He was fined $100 for disregarding a police officer, $25 for furnishing alcohol to a minor, and $10 for reckless driving, with costs. Juveniles were sent to juvenile authorities. Williams also faced absence without leave from Ft. Riley and was referred to military authorities. Judge William M. Jones ordered payment in kind to the Indiana state farm at Putnamville when fines could not be paid. Dallas Eugene Locke, 37, Seymour, pleaded guilty to public intoxication and was fined $15 plus costs.

Train Derails in Seymour Dowtown Causing Major Track Damage
A eastbound Baltimore and Ohio freight train derailed at Walnut street crossing in Seymour at noon. Several hundred feet of track were torn up and cars scattered across the intersection. No injuries or cause known. One wheel set stopped on Walnut street. one car overturned. another lost its undercarriage. Utilities damaged. one small fire extinguished. Police rerouted traffic, causing a downtown jam.

Police arrest 13 youths at Starve Hollow Beach
