Review Board Ends Hearings On Protests
Jackson County board of review concluded hearings on real estate protest appeals this week during its third month of the current session. About 90 percent of filed protests were presented before the board as it works through reassessment corrections, classification grading, and mortgage soldier and property tax exemptions. The board expects to continue work through July, delaying the normal June start, with final valuations and figures on reassessments to be released later. Members are Stanley A. Switzer and Bee Scourgeon, joined by county officials Claude R. McCrary, Louis H. Schroer, and Mrs. Tiesa Lane Allman.

A 21 year old Crothersville woman, Mrs Willie Hollon, was treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital after a sewing machine needle lodged in the nail of her left hand. A Seymour youth, 13 year old Eugene Tudor, sustained chest lacerations when he ran into an iron fence post while playing ball.

Trooper Gillespie Dies In Ind 37 Crash Near Bedford
Indiana state trooper Robert C. Gillespie 33 of Bedford was killed when a northbound pickup veered into his emergency pursuit on Ind 37 five miles south of Bedford. Nevian R. Tovey 56, a former Seymour resident now at Spring Mill State Park, was critically injured with fractures of both hips. Prewitt, the Bedford driver, stopped at the scene and later surrendered at the Bedford police station. Gillespie held the Gold Star for heroism from a 1959 Avoca gun battle.

A 71-year-old Seymour woman, Ida M. Thias, was listed in serious condition at Schneck Memorial Hospital after being struck by a taxicab at Poplar and Brown streets Friday at 4 03 p m. The 1953 cab driven by Kenneth E. Goble, cited for defective brakes, struck Thias while crossing the street. injuries included the forehead and face, shoulder, spine, and chest.

Summer Reading Pow Wow Theme For Library Reading Club
Seymour Public Library announces the Summer Reading Pow Wow theme for the children's reading club running from Monday through August 4 for ages up to grade six. About 250 children have registered. last year 400 participated. Five books earns a name card with a famous Indian sticker, ten books grants a movie ticket, and filling the card requires 15 stickers. Story hours begin June 15 for K-3 at 10 am Fridays and June 18 for grades 4-6 at 10 am Mondays in the library art gallery. Artwork loaned includes E. Irving Couse Chunga Firelight, Kachinas by Monteague Flagg, and Indian bead work from Curt Bruce.

Woman Admits Arson Fire In 308 St Louis Ave Apartment
A 21 year old Seymour woman admitted setting a pile of clothing ablaze in her second floor apartment at 308 St Louis Avenue around 2 40 am. Firefighters contained the fire to that unit with minor smoke and content damage. She was arrested on arson charges and held at Jackson County jail after questioning by police.
