Two Jackson county men Herschel Hurd and Paul C. Crockett were sent to Indianapolis today to report for induction into the armed services per Brownstown Selective Service Clerk Mrs. Vivian Smith. The local board has not called any men for pre induction physicals this month. Three men were sent to fill May’s call reporting May 21 to the Indianapolis center and were sent to Camp Chaffee Arkansas for initial training.

Elmer Freel 82 of North Vernon died Tuesday afternoon at Schneck Memorial Hospital after admission June 7 from Rose Lawn Nursing Home. Graveside Rites Held For Lawrence Allen Near Waymansville
Graveside services for Lawrence Allen 76 of near Waymansville were held at Garland Brook Cemetery Columbus after he was found dead of natural causes in a huckster wagon where he lived nine years. He was born February 15 1878 in Lawrence county and married Margaret Myers in 1925 in Missouri who died two years later. He is survived by a sister in Bedford and a niece in Chicago.

French Bombard Hanoi and Saigon Fight Off Vietminh
French planes tanks and artillery pounded Vietminh positions in the Red River delta near Hanoi while rebel forces tightened their semi circle around the delta defense perimeter.
