The White River rose again at Rockford reaching 14.23 feet as of forenoon with a 1.13 inch weekend rainfall. Flooded uplands and lowlands along the White and Muscatatuck Rivers delay plowing and seeding while farmers expect fair weather to resume field work.
James Heinrich, 17, of Rush City Minnesota, son of Otto and Mrs Emma Heinrich, drowned Sunday afternoon in a Rush City lake. He was a Lutheran Church member, survived by his parents, a brother Carl and sister Margaret. Mrs Fledderjohn left Cortland to Rush City for relatives’ death.
Miss Florence Love age unknown died at her home 314 North Poplar street at 9:15 am after a six month illness. Daughter of James and Eady Robison Love she lived in Seymour most of her life. She was a First Methodist Church member and Alpha Class Sunday School loyalist. She hosted Farmers' Club for 26 years and later served as secretary to Dr. Louis H. Osterman. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge and is survived by two sisters.
A class of 62 seniors at Wabash College celebrated its 109th commencement on Sunday. Fifty eight of the graduates were war veterans. Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees went to Judge Samuel Seabury of New York and Judge Robert C. Baltzell of the Southern Indiana District Federal Court. Among AB degree recipients were Don A. McGuire and John McGuire, twins from Seymour. William Gordon Coryea, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Coryea of West Seventh Street, also received an AB degree.
Judge Wilfred Bradshaw director of the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce Personnel Relations Department is slated to speak to a Seymour Chamber of Commerce delegation at the Elk's Club Wednesday night June 11. A dinner at 6 30 will precede the talk, with arrangements by H C Ahlbrand and Glenn H Seward. The meeting launches a bi monthly series led by Don Bollinger of Seymour Woolen Mills.
Carlin Allman, 20, Cortland Ri, faces a late afternoon court appearance on a charge of operating a vehicle at an unreasonable speed after a Sunday night crash on Alternate U S 31 north of Seymour. A 1936 coach struck a utility pole, breaking it in two. Allman was unhurt while Royal Allman and Charles Zikes sustained minor injuries.
Sey mour city council will hold a 7:30 PM special meeting in John Hauenschild's office to transfer 4500 from street improvement to the street oiling fund. After council action the matter goes to the state tax board for a local hearing before approval.
About 75Girl Scouts from Seymour attended a Play Day at Shields Park on Saturday. The event featured a free swim with Wood's light checks for ringworm, a cook out, a rest period, sing along, troop stunts, and softball under Mrs Jane Waldkoetter. Leaders and committee members from several troops participated.
Funeral services for Frank S. Gilbert 79 retired railroad conductor active in Masonic and church circles were held at 11 this morning at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. William Prentice in charge A 32nd degree Scottish Rite ring ceremony was conducted by A Fred Thomas and Clarence T Drayer of Indianapolis Burial followed at Riverview Cemetery with a Masonic funeral service and Knights Templar escort in full uniform. Gilbert died Friday afternoon at Sehneck Memorial Hospital

Robert K. Fitzsimmons aged 76 died after an accidental fall at his Cortland area home. He sustained a head injury Sunday and died hours later at Schneck Memorial Hospital. Survived by three children and four grandchildren, funeral set for Wednesday at Voss Mortuary with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
Sugar rationing for household use hangs on by a thread but may end this month as the Department of Agriculture weighs ending allocation. Officials say limitation will end as soon as possible and propose an extra 15 pounds per person this year for home canning.
Five people died over a spread of weekend accidents in Indiana as sunny spring weather drew crowds outside. Basil Buchanan 19 of Vevey and his brother Dale 31 of Indianapolis died when their light plane crashed near Mount Sterling. Richard Shoemaker 21 of Fort Wayne died in a separate crash at Fort Wayne airport. An Indianapolis auto collision killed 18 year old Robert Burchett and injured two others. An 18 month old Washington child died after being hit by a car. Seven people were injured in a collision involving an Indiana Railways bus in Indianapolis. Race driver Bill Pavlak in Pana Illinois suffered major injuries in a Jungle Park wreck near Rockville.
The 1947 Shields High School Patriot was distributed to students with 500 copies. It features class pictures, faculty, clubs and sports, a summary of activities, and the high school career of the graduates. Miss Mina McHenry led literary work with Mary Alice Bruner as advisor.
Republican leaders weigh a plan to recall Congress later this year to handle crises while avoiding full adjournment. The idea would let Senate and House leaders call members back, preserving control over domestic and foreign affairs amid tense international developments. The State Department drafts an overall program for consideration next year.
Two Seymour young men Rob ert Lee Foster and Clifford Freder ick Miller received the honorary Chevalier degree at a public investiture Sunday afternoon at Trinity Methodist Church. They are both past master councillors of the Seymour chapter and active DeMolay workers. The ceremony was led by E W Sargeant with Charles R Brown as grand commander. other conferring team members were listed.
A judgement of $100 was awarded the plaintiff in a damage suit in the Jackson circuit court by Jerry Kay Shields through her next friend Jack E. Shields against Jack Scott. Dismissed on motion of plaintiff Elmer C. Sugdon vs Ruth Sugdon divorce granted November 7 1946 with citation returnable June 10. Other actions include Willard N. Everhart Sr vs Eva D Everhart divorce and B F Goodrich Co vs Hi Buttermore account.
The Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific Railroad Company gains a continuance until June 16 in its Indiana property valuation case against the state tax board. Judge George H. Gossman presided in Jackson Circuit Court as the company resumes evidence after a stalled trial last week. The tax board plans to present substantial evidence requiring about a week.
In Pennsylvania, about 10 000 miners are idle as walkouts spread into Fayette Greene and Washington counties. Fourteen mines shut, many captive pits owned by major steel firms, as Mine Chief John L. Lewis negotiations stall and officials await field reports. President Truman may act on the Hartley Taft bill soon.
In Muncie Delaware county coroner reports jealousy as the motive. Grant L. Wright shot Effie Shumake in his home and then killed himself after firing into the floor. The 11 year old daughter testified Wright was jealous and that Shumake had been his housekeeper. Wright left a will directing most belongings to the daughter.

Arthur Rogers 63 dies in Indianapolis complicating the contested 49th judicial circuit seat for Davie and Martin counties. Rogers won the post in a recount after 1946 election. Democratic challenger Fred Dobbyn has an appeal pending. Rogers served 37 years as Washington lawyer and county attorney. survived by widow and son.
