Rain failed to curb Derby bound traffic to Churchill Downs in Louisville as U S Route 31 saw heavy southbound flow toward the Downs. Seymour residents joined the throng amid gasoline limits and police patrols while officials predicted a wartime crowd around 70 000 for the richest Derby in history.

Seymour Lodge 462 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks invites the public to its annual Flag Day ceremony at 8 pm next Wednesday in the Elks Home on West Second Street. Lt. James F. Local Man to Receive Hurty Award for Water Safety Work
Riley Goble of the Seymour Water Company pumping station in Rockford will receive the John N Hurty Award from the Indiana State Board of Health at the district water works meeting next Tuesday June 12 at Muscatatuck State School near Butlerville. Goble began with the Seymour Water Works in 1905 and contributed to portable drinking water supply development for over twenty five years.
