Tragic suicide in Vernon Township farmer Joseph Hanners
Alexander Hanners, age 24, a Vernon township farmer, killed himself with a 12 gauge shotgun after telling neighbor William Baker he was going away to an unknown destination. He left a note to his wife and was seen in good spirits earlier, having hunted rabbits and prepared for supper at Harley Moore’s home. The incident occurred at Beech Grove. his wife and two-year-old child were away visiting relatives.

Traveling salesman arrested here on forgery charge
T. J. Holman, about fifty, was arrested at the local post office by Chief J. T. Abell on a forgery charge linked to a $35 draft on a St. Louis firm. He allegedly induced Cyrus Yocum of Muncie to sign the paper. the draft bounced and Yocum covered it. A Muncie officer is expected to take him back there.

William Silence 76 Dies in Crothersville
Vernon township resident William Silence aged 76 died at 2:50 this morning at his Crothersville home after a long illness. He suffered a stroke months ago and leaves two sons William of Brownstown and John of Crothersville and four daughters Eliza Stewart Seymour, Mrs Roseberry and Mrs Monroe of Crothersville, and Mrs Edward Black of Hope. Toledo June 9 police used machine guns rifles pistols and sulphur candles to end a siege with James Kelly a waiter who killed two patrolmen and holed up in his attic.
