Hope for early armistice fades as army worms spread throughout Jackson county. Farmers spray fields and lay poison bran in furrows to protect corn and other crops, with reports of worms covering ground and some entering treated fields. Initial damage includes stripped fields near Crothersville to Dudley Town.
Amelia Borgstede 67 lifelong Waymansville resident of Jackson county died Thursday at Michigan Hill Nursing Home Greensburg after a cerebral hemorrhage five years ago. Born January 14 1886 in Jackson township Bartholomew County she was married to Herman Borgstede who preceded her in death. Funeral services 2 30 Sunday Hathaway Funeral Home Columbus and 3 30 at White Creek Methodist Church burial nearby. Friends may call after noon Saturday.
The Seymour Lodge No. 108 of the Fraternal Order of Police holds its third annual banquet tonight at 7 in the Rainbow Room of the Hotel Walton. Edward Styles, assistant chief of the Indianapolis FBI bureau, will be the main speaker, with Seymour mayor Donald L. Heiwig and local leaders on the program.
Charles Orval Tracy 58 of Lima Ohio is killed in a three vehicle crash at the junction of U S 31 and State Road 7 south of Columbus. Tracy was thrown from his car and died en route to Bartholomew County Hospital from a fractured skull. His wife Velma Tracy injured. Schroeder 61 of West Asheville NC drove the eastbound car and Ziebarth Michigan town Ind drove the northbound truck. both sustained minor injuries. The crash occurred while the couple were traveling from their home to Tennessee on vacation.
A pre school roundup for Clara D Carter School first graders will occur Monday. Parents are asked to bring birth certificates if possible. Twenty five appointment cards were mailed. others may attend. Those without appointments should report at 1 PM. Enrollment will be taken. Mrs Kenneth Findley chairs.
Glenn Hackney of the Jackson County Tuberculosis Association spoke at the Seymour Lions Club noting TB kills 34,000 yearly and urging a date for the Mobile X-ray Unit visit starting June 15. William Kautz of the Arvin plant in Columbus discussed industrial safety with examples of measures that cut accidents since the movement began in 1913.
Indiana plans uniform marking for over 84000 miles of highways and 166000 farm homes to ease location. County officials and Purdue's Joint Highway Research Project discussed a standard method for numbering roads and farms as mandated by 1953 legislation. Advisory engineers Arthur Branham Harold Michael and John Baerwald were named to devise the numbering system and letter use.
Secretary Folsom said Korea truce would not alter the drive to maintain high taxes. House Ways and Means urged ending excess profits tax extension beyond June 30. Treasury officials denied pressuring business friends to back the six month tax extension. Humphrey said he outlined the administration’s views and asked for neutrality if agreement was unlikely.

Marine Corporal James Glasson, 22, of Seymour, R I, serves with Headquarters squadron of the 1st Provisional Marine Air- Ground Task Force's Marine Air Group 13 at Kaneohe Bay Hawaii He coordinates training with Third Marine Division units from Camp Pendleton California for six months training. He joined the Marine Corps in January 1952 and has been in Hawaii since May 1952 as a supply clerk.
The old Seymour Church of God store at Fourth and Blish streets has been removed. The lawn has been graded and an outdoor church bulletin will be installed. After feeding the lawn, landscaping will be completed with ornamental pines and stone terracing.

Storms are forecast to lower daytime heat with cooler nights as thunderstorms lash central areas. Four deaths are reported with crop damage and disrupted communications. Temperatures ranged 60 to 91 degrees today, and a five day forecast predicts 2 to 4 degrees below normal highs of 81 to 88.
A Chicago accountant testified before the Public Service Commission in Indianapolis supporting Indiana Gas and Water Co. on a proposed average 10.94 percent gas rate increase across 59 Indiana communities including Seymour. The witness backed the utility’s claim against opposing testimony from a state accounts chief and a university researcher.
Effective Sunday June 7 the Sunday night mail will be withdrawn from Pennsylvania Railroad Train No 305 which arrives Seymour at 12 35 am. Mail for north dispatch on Sundays must be at Seymour post office by 3 pm CST or 2 pm CST for dispatch to train 307 arriving 2 30 pm. This will be the only northbound Sunday mail train through Seymour. All mail received after the mid afternoon dispatch and before 7 pm Sunday will go to Baltimore and Ohio Train No 29 westbound at 11 pm. No collections will be made from the north side mailbox at the station on Sunday nights.

A father driving to visit his son collided with a milk truck at a county road intersection about 4.1 miles west of Seymour and 1.4 miles south of U S Highway 50. The car sustained about 150 dollars in damage and the milk truck about 15 dollars. Trooper Lawrence Conway investigated at the Seymour state police post.
A Jackson Circuit Court jury in Brownstown found George W. Stroud not guilty of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after a short deliberation. Special judge Allan H. Nierman presided with Oakley Allen Jr. of Seymour serving as jury foreman.
American Sabre jet pilots bagged eight Communist MIG jets and Maj. Vermont Garrison of Tulsa downed his fifth MIG to become the war's 32nd jet ace. Ground fighting raged as South Korean infantry battled Chinese and North Koreans for control of Allied outposts along the front.
Rain in ten days surpassed all of 1952 in Montana as floodwaters surged in ten counties along the Continental Divide. Nine valley communities face evacuation while streams in the Sun River and Belt Creek basins swell. fatalities and dozens displaced are reported as officials warn the situation may worsen. Government and Red Cross declare emergency.

Indiana Public Service Commission approves large rate hike for Logansport Water Utility raising a 10 000 gallon monthly bill to 4 65 from 1 80 and authorizes 1 800 000 revenue bonds to overhaul a 60 year old waterworks. The move lifts annual revenue from about 130 951 to 292 000 as Seymour protests comparatively lower municipal charges.
