County Road Work Curtailed Due to Diminishing Funds
Jackson county board of commissioners ordered curtailment of highway work to actual necessity at its Monday meeting in Brownstown. Funds across highway accounts are running low after heavy winter work, so the road superintendent was instructed to limit maintenance to essential tasks for the remaining seven months. Lions Club representatives invited the board to a Crathersville meeting June 8 to discuss county road planning collaboration.

English war bride learns relatives not in Easington mine blast
Mrs Arthur Robinson of 214 East Ninth Street learned late Monday that her father Archie Boughen her brothers Arthur and Alfred Boughen and her brother in law William Rush ton were not in the Easington colliery when the blast killed 18 and trapped 62 workers 900 feet underground. Her relatives work at the mine in nearby Horden and some were at home ill during the disaster.

Three Hurt in Two Accidents Near Seymour
Three people were injured in two separate crashes Monday near Seymour. Stella Peters, 79, of Wallonia, was seriously hurt in Brownstown when her arm was torn in a door and had to be amputated at Schneck Memorial Hospital. In a second crash at the U S 31 50 junction east of Seymour, two occupants suffered injuries as a collision with an auto truck partly blocked traffic.

Local Minister Aids Campground Building Near Cicero Indiana
The Rev. Charles Mattingly of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Seymour joins 24 other ministers in building a tent city near Cicero Indiana for the state wide camp meeting. Almost 3500 attend and 12 new cabins are added as attendance climbs, with 90 cabins built in the last three years. Ministers say the work brings them closer to their congregations.

Blood Donors Give 92 Pints To Red Cross
Ninety two pints were donated by Jackson county residents as the Louisville Red Cross blood mobile made its 17th visit to the area. Seven prospective donors were rejected for illnesses or low hemoglobin at First Methodist Church. Next visit is scheduled for July 9. List of donors follows.

Jury Finds Man Guilty of DUI Charge in Jackson Circuit
After about 15 minutes of deliberation in Jackson Circuit Court at Brownstown, John D. Foster Deputy was found guilty of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. Sentencing is set for Wednesday morning before Judge George H. Gossman. Foster was arrested April 20 on U S Road 50 east of Seymour by Cpl. Jack Curry. Foreman William H. Lemp led a panel including Edward Hamilton and others from Pershing, Medora, Carr, Vernon, and Brownstown. Trial of Richard Doty for second degree burglary remains scheduled for Wednesday for the Wheeler's restaurant theft at Valonia.

Man Pleads Not Guilty to Two Vehicle Charges
