Jackson County rationing board members hunted for 3000 canning sugar registration blanks believed missing since a truck from Indianapolis failed to deliver them. Centers opened today with only a fraction of the needed forms, sparking delays, closures, and irate housewives as state and local officials scrambled to locate the missing stock.
Miss Irene Houk of 318 West Bruce street was injured at Baldwins Drug Store when a cream whipping machine exploded scattering metal parts. A fragment shattered her glasses and cut her right eye, sending her to St Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
Weather report notes another scorching day with temperatures near the upper nineties and a peak of ninety nine already in the recent heat wave. Survived by husband Henry a son Walter a daughter Mrs George Von Dielingen two sisters and thirteen grandchildren. Two children preceded her in death.

A heavy bomber crashed near San Rafael California last night killing fourteen Army airmen. The plane struck a hilltop as the pilot attempted an emergency landing and flames engulfed the wreckage.
Three local men pleaded guilty to speeding on West Second street. Herman Tidd Horace Gray and Hugh Sparks were fined 1 dollar plus 11 dollars in costs by Mayor Stanley A. Switzer. Police say they will crack down on reckless driving as more traffic increases hazards with schools out and bicycles in heavy use.
Dr Hans Helmut Gros a Minneapolis born physician 34 and his wife Frances Goellert Gros 31 were convicted of espionage in Los Angeles. The pair face up to 20 years each with an additional five years for failure to register as foreign agents. Judge Ben Harrison praised Gros as acting for the German government. Proceedings set sentences for next Monday and June 15 for Mrs Gros.
