The American Legion Post 89 voluntary safety check near its end logged 704 total checks through Friday night with 158 more vehicles tested that evening on West Fifth street. Rechecks and first time tests earned Indiana safety stickers for 81 and 37 vehicles, while 40 failing vehicles spurred a Tuesday recheck opportunity at the Legion Home.

Jackson county Board of Review session opens Monday
The Jackson county board of review will begin its 30 day annual session Monday at the Jackson county courthouse in Brownstown. The same day the Jackson county board of commissioners meet and May term court sessions continue making the courthouse busy. The board reviews mortgage and soldiers exemptions and personal assessments. Members include Lynn Roberts Jr Omer Owens and John E Zickler with two appointees Ephriam W Chilbrand and Marion Empson. The commissioners will also consider a petition for county take over of a road near the former Wallonia canning factory and will appoint three viewers if accepted. Claims including expenses of the Seymour city primary election will be submitted for approval.

District ASC Meeting Discusses Wheat Referendum in Brownstown
ASC office managers from 12 southern Indiana counties met in Brownstown to review programs and the June 25 wheat referendum. The group discussed acreage estimates, Holland amendment repeal effects, and four voting sites in Jackson County with about 300 eligible voters. Two Men Slightly Hurt in Crash Near Seymour
Two men were slightly injured in a collision on U S 50 near Freeman Field road west of Seymour Friday around 4 pm. Robert S. Hall 23 of Scottsburg suffered a hip bruise after being thrown from a 1949 coach driven by William A. Niccum 18 of Scottsburg. Ivy Figg of Kentucky had a forehead laceration as a passenger in a car driven by his son Selva Lee Figg 22 of Elizabethtown Ky. Both were treated and released from Schneck Memorial Hospital. Niccum attempted a left turn when Figg tried to pass. Niccum’s car was damaged about 200 dollars and Figg’s about 500 dollars.

Banked bed radios donated to Schneck Memorial Hospital
Ten coin operated bed radios were donated by the Psi Iota Xi sorority of Seymour to Schneck Memorial Hospital in Jackson County. Purchased for about 600 dollars in 1952, the radios were used by patients with proceeds split between the sorority and hospital until now. All future receipts will benefit the hospital.

Rites For Mrs. Clouse Set For Monday
Funeral services for Nellie J. Clouse 58 of Seymour will be held Monday at 2 p m from Voss Mortuary with Elder Dewey Allman officiating. Burial will follow in Reddington Cemetery. She died Friday afternoon at 305 Highland Avenue. Survived by mother husband Ezra six children three brothers one sister 25 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

President Eisenhower used a four seat light plane on a Gettysburg trip and back to Washington. He received a Berkshire sow and three Black Angus cattle for his farm, plus a 1300 pound cow and a 150 pound calf for Mrs. Eisenhower.
