New Welfare Program Funds Approved by County Council

Jackson County council in special session approved a $4000 appropriation to start the 4-D welfare program under the Social Security Act of 1975. The plan creates a non-support division to pursue fathers who fail to pay support, with mothers assigning their checks to fund welfare. The county will receive a 25 percent bounty on the first 1200 and 10 percent on the next 1200 collected.

License Branch Gets New Head in Seymour

Mrs. Raymon Mitchell assumes duties as manager of the Seymour License Bureau this morning. She plans friendly service and notes branch hours 8 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. weekdays and 6 30 a.m. to noon Saturday. She succeeds Mrs. Fosbrink, a Republican candidate for county auditor.

County Council Approves Broad Set of Appropriations

Jackson County Council approved all requested appropriations and transfers at a Wednesday session. Plans for a separate juvenile detention center were endorsed pending county commissioners' approval. Notable funds include 800 for Bridge 91, 11 160 and 26 874 for road projects, and 500 for sheriff uniforms plus jail bedding.

In Jackson Circuit Court Judge Robert R Brown sentenced Juan G Perez 18 of Austin to 90 days at the Indiana state farm a 250 fine and one year license suspension for driving while under the influence causing Ruth Hazelwoods death in the July 20 1975 Crothersville crash Johnson Curtis of Scottsburg received nine months at the state farm and a 500 fine for second offense DUI. Johnson previously faced charges including reckless homicide and had his case appealed to the Indiana Supreme Court which upheld the DUI second offense.

Youth Camp Set At Refuge

The Indiana Summer Youth Conservation Corps will hold a Muscatatuck Refuge camp starting June 7 under IDNR director Joseph D. Cloud. A 20-person, eight-week, nonresidential coed program runs June 14 to August 6 east of Seymour on US 50 with recruitment through local schools and state offices.

Man Found Guilty Of Charges In Jennings Circuit Court

William Parker of rural Butlerville was found guilty of first degree burglary and theft in Jennings Circuit Court. Judge Joseph O. Carson set sentencing for 2 p.m. Monday. Penalties range 10 to 20 years for burglary and 1 to 10 years for theft, to be served concurrently. Prosecution called three witnesses including Marie Tempest and Trooper Chuck Waggoner. Parker was represented by court-appointed counsel.

Children Seek Title At Crothersville Bicentennial

Contestants for the prince and princess title at the Crothersville Bicentennial Red White and Blue Festival were chosen by Crothersville Elementary School’s fourth, fifth and sixth grade classes. Each class sponsors one boy and girl to compete, with the winner crowned the festival’s opening night.

Sewer Plant Interceptor Construction Underway Near New Ford Road

Heavy equipment and workers in yellow hard hats operate at the U S 50 and Airport Road site building a federally ordered wastewater treatment plant. Russell F Davis Inc of Lafayette oversees a 168 688 project linking Freeman Field disposal plant with the new facility north of New Ford Road and east of White River. Construction includes an interceptor sewer and force main, with steel conduit under U S 50 and a route northeast and south of Airport Road to the disposal site. The firm awaits insurance certification and bonding before trenching operations cross the road.

Alcohol and Drug Funds Move to Aid Region XI Plan

About 45 000 will support Region XI's 1976 77 alcohol and drug abuse plan across Jackson Bartholomew Brown Decatur and Jennings counties. Indiana Division of Addiction Services funds go to producers willing to implement recommendations. Dick Therrien chairs the subcommittee this year replacing Emerson Gilbert and will oversee requests. The plan includes 14 recommendations with top priorities for non medical detoxification hospital screening and enhanced jail detox quality.
