Tax Revenues Distributed Across Jackson County Units

Checks mailed from the Brownstown auditor’s office distribute 1,772,587.41 in spring property and intangible taxes in Jackson County. Schools receive about half, with Seymour Community Schools and Brownstown Central leading. Other allocations cover county funds, libraries, and state funds, totaling a new high for midyear collections.

Jackson County Review Board Opens 1967 Session

The Jackson County Board of Review begins its 1967 session Monday in the Brownstown auditor's office. It reviews assessments from March 1 to May 15 and exemptions for mortgages veterans blind and nonprofit organizations. Hearings cover new homes additions and personal property appeals through July 1, five days weekly.

Two Hurt In Crash At Oville Interchange

Two truck drivers were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 at the Crothersville interchange around 1:30 a m. Betty Collett 29 of Parsons Tennessee suffered back neck and rib injuries while George Dwinner 57 of Fort Dodge Iowa had neck and back pains. Collett remained in Schneck Memorial Hospital in good condition. Scotty Collett 30 was driving an empty semi that rear ended the loaded tractor trailer driven by Dwinner. Damages were estimated at 700 and 300 dollars. Troopers Miller Vermeulen and Young investigated.

Seymour Considers Bicycle Ordinance To Improve Road Safety

Chief Robert Gill backs a proposed city ordinance to identify abandoned bicycles and teach road rules to youths. The measure, discussed by council and welcomed by many residents, would create a bicycle court and cite infractions such as failing to signal turns and riding more than two abreast.

Commissioners Meet Monday at Brownstown Courthouse

The June Jackson County board of commissioners will meet Monday at the Brownstown courthouse. Agenda items include bridge specifications for White Creek to replace a structure knocked down in a truck accident and talks between the Army Corps of Engineers and a property owner about a right of way between a county road and an access road to Lake McAroe.

Dangerous Bridges Set For Widening In Indiana

Indiana highways officials announce widening of thirteen narrow bridges on Ind 58 in Jackson and Bartholomew counties over the next year as part of a 6.9 million dollar state project widening 263 bridges. The plan includes bridges on Ind 58 Ind 11 Ind 250 and others near Greensburg and Seymour with some to be replaced rather than widened. Engineering costs cover redesign of 147 miles of two lane roads to four lanes.

Indiana Nat s Guard May Lose 1100 Men

Indiana faces a three year reorganization with up to 1100 guardsmen cut while adding a Green Berets unit centered on the 1st Battalion 151st Infantry Airborne in Muncie. The 38th Infantry Division stays SRF with about 9100 soldiers, 1400 reassigned to nondivisional units.

Summer School Programs Open In Seymour And Brownstown

Seymour Community Schools begin eight courses including driver education biology English and typing with sessions at Seymour High School and Brownstown. Classes run 8 am to noon daily with a 7 am to 3 pm driver course in car instruction and a closing session July 28.

May 1966 Seymour police report shows accidents down

May recorded 39 accidents and $12 610 in vehicle damage, with 297 calls answered and 29 people arrested on 36 charges. Personal injuries occurred in six crashes, public intoxication and DUI charges rose, traffic arrests fell.
