1961 Preliminary Jackson County Assessments Shown

Unofficial figures from Jackson County show total 1961 valuations slightly below 1960 on a countywide basis with only three townships and two corporations posting increases. Seymour leads nonfarm units with 14.13 million, while Medora figures rise. Crothersville and Brownstown post declines.

Tatlock Sues For Driver's License In Jackson Court

In Jackson Circuit Court Judge John M. Lewis heard Robert G. Tatlock vs Alva H. Brewer commissioner of the Indiana bureau of motor vehicles for review and stay of proceedings. The court took the matter under advisement awaiting briefs from both sides.

Two Men Hurt In Wreck On Ind 58

Two Jackson County men were injured in a 2:45 a.m. auto accident on Ind. 58 and admitted to Schneck Memorial Hospital. Thomas D. Kindred 21 Kurtz received 20 stitches to the left ear and spine and left knee X-rays. Clayton Leon Scott 22 Freetown had three head stitches and right arm X-rays. Seymour post officers are investigating.

Power outages hit Hayden and North Vernon after storm

Heavy thundershowers dumped nearly an inch and knocked out electricity to Hayden Indiana and North Vernon around noon Friday when a tree limb fell on a 33 000 volt line of the Public Service Company of Indiana. Power was restored after the limb dried and again disrupted later when the limb shorted the line.

920 Farms In County Under Grain Program

Jackson County reports 920 of 2 002 farms eligible for 1961 feed grain price supports as of Thursday. The 17 924 diverted acres reduce crop production to qualify for subsidies, with corn at 1.22 dollars per bushel and grain sorghums at 1.93 per hundredweight.

Library plans summer program for youngsters

Seymour Public Library will start a full summer reading program Monday June 12 with the Book Parade theme. Several hundred city youngsters are expected to participate to boost reading skills during vacation months. Crothersville branch will offer a similar program supervised through August 5.

County Soil Service Improves Eight Acre Field Drainage Near Here

Jackson County Soil Conservation Service completed a weathered erosion project on an eight acre Walter field near U S 31 U S 50. A terrace, six waterways, and cross slope ditches were built totaling 2100 feet of waterways and 1400 feet of ditches plus a 1500 foot terrace. Concrete retaining wall and grade stabilization structure were erected to prevent runoff.

Mrs. Rudolph Van Essen aged 27 from 905 North Broadway was treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital for a fractured left rib after being thrown from a motorcycle. She was admitted at 9 45 a m Friday and released later. The accident occurred about 3 p m Thursday in Brown County.

Town Meeting At Oville Monday On Public Projects

Crothersville town board of trustees schedules a 7 p m meeting at the high school gym to discuss a 338000 plan for sewer and water improvements. John W. Lewis says the gathering allows residents to express views before action. Plans call for 212000 sewer work and 116000 water system upgrades.
