Wingler Is Sentenced To Life In 1960 Murder Case
Frank Wingler 60, of Vallonia Ind, was sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to second degree murder in the August 16, 1960 shooting of his father in law Harry Robbins 80 at Vallonia Ind. Robbins died from a single .22 bullet to the neck. Wingler will be eligible for parole in 12 to 14 years. The crime also wounded Wingler's wife Celia Wingler 47 and his mother in law Mrs. Jula Robbins 78. Authorities captured Wingler at his home hours after the triple shooting following a standoff with police. He was shot in the hand by Sheriff Ben Cooper when surrendering. He remained in Washington County Hospital Salem before being moved to Scott County jail.

Columbus Man Pleads Guilty In Gas Thefts
Paull Bennett, 21, of Columbus, pleaded guilty in Columbus City Court to petit larceny after being arraigned on Thursday. He awaits sentencing following a pre sentence investigation. Bennett was arrested Sunday morning in gasol ine thefts from farms in the Jonesville area, according to Bartholomew County authorities.

Murder Suspected In Woman's Death In Scott County
Scott County authorities investigate a possible sex murder in the death of Martha Smith of Austin aged 27. A grand jury was called to probe the disappearance and the body was found in White Oak Bayou after her car, a 1953 Buick, contained her green sandals under the front seat. Sterling Terry of Austin, brother in law to the victim, was booked on suspicion of murder after a lie detector test suggested he knew more than he disclosed. He claimed the victim disappeared from his car during a tire change after visiting her estranged husband Hoover Smith. authorities note her clothing remains missing.

New Vallonia Post Office Set for Sunday Dedication
The Vallonia post office moves to a new one story brick building on Main Street. Dedication Sunday at 2 p m will be hosted by the Wallonia Lions Club with Perry W Foster and James Reed leading planning. The lease runs 10 years with four five year options. The facility features air conditioning, electric heat, a loading ramp and a paved parking area. The public is invited to inspect the new post office.

A six month old girl, Carol Ann Comanich, was slightly injured in a one car crash on Kasting road near Jackson street at 4:45 p m. She suffered a bruise and eyelid cut and was treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital. The 1953 two door sedan driven by her mother veered off the road and overturned in a ditch. Farm Tractor Destroyed by Fire Near Seymour
John W. Schieibaum of Seymour Al suffered a heavy loss when his farm tractor was gutted by fire Wednesday afternoon in a field opposite the Newby dairy barn on U S 80. He was burning grass and was burned slightly on the hands while trying to loosen the gas cap. Authorities aided and the Spencer Township Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the blaze.
