Mrs. Dorothy Schnepf of 337 Emerson Drive will assume supervision of The Owls Nest teen youth center above the North Chestnut G C Murphy store. She was chosen to fill the vacancy caused by Chester W. Private Findley Burned by Dummy Grenade at Fort Lewis
Private Billy Max Findley, 23, inducted March 22, sustained severe burns to his right hand during basic training at Fort Lewis Washington when a dummy grenade discharged in his pocket. He reported no other injuries and is not in serious condition.

Lightning Knocks Out Cafe Air Conditioning
Friday afternoon a lightning strike disabled the Colonial Cafe's air conditioning at 2:40 pm. Smoke issued from vents but Seymour Fire Department found no fire damage upon arrival. Fire Chief Tom Bryant said the strike traveled in on service wires causing a short in the unit and wiring damage.

India hands over silver to United States in lend-lease repayment
New York reports India has turned over 93 tons of silver bullion worth more than three million dollars in repayment of lend-lease during World War II. The shipment arrived Wednesday at Jersey City and is the first installment of about 1,500 tons valued at about 50 million dollars. The bars were stored aboard until Friday when formally presented to American officials for transfer to a U S government depository at West Point New York.
