A severe cold wave grips New York and eastern states after snow and sleet. Old King Boreus drives temperatures to six degrees below zero at a pumping station by White River, with widespread frost and drivers facing icy conditions as coal wagons report heavy activity. Temperatures rise later, but lingering snow needs warmer weather to melt.
International News Service reports the January 28 observance of the Knickerbocker theater collapse deaths. Two more fatalities are linked to the storm in Washington, including Dr. G. P. Lamsden, 70, who died of heart failure after being marooned, and Archie Burrell found frozen in an unused street.
NY temperature stayed around five degrees above zero as a northeast gale followed yesterday's snow and sleet. Four inches of snow impeded foot and vehicle traffic, with more snow expected Thursday and a death attributed to the temperature drop.
Winter coldest weather across the region with official readings of 10 below zero in Albany and 42 below in Canton. The Surprise canning factory owned by W W Patrick will be incorporated as a new company at four thousand dollars. Most stockholders are farmers from Surprise. Patrick to receive one thousand six hundred in cash and his four sons receive stock valued at one thousand. Stock sales reached four thousand while purchase price stood at two thousand six hundred. New machinery and repairs planned to boost production this year. Practically one hundred percent of stock sold locally.
The Ford Coupe owned by Edison Lucas, Brownstown cafe proprietor, stolen about a week ago, was found abandoned on a downtown Indianapolis street. Lucas retrieved the vehicle in Brownstown after confirming it was undamaged. He suspects a stranger may have taken the car after a pickup near Franklin.
Japanese Navy Minister Kyo Takara expressed gratification for the reception afforded the Japanese training squadron during its visit to San Francisco. He said Japan and the United States share a lasting friendship between their sea forces and that future ties will prove them the best of friends despite critics.

Albert Moore of Crothersville was found guilty of liquor manufacture and fined $100. Receivers and banks related to Crothersville State bank claims totaling thousands were noted as payable from receiver funds.
Twenty two tomato canning firms with packing plants at thirty one Indiana points have agreed to pay fourteen dollars per ton for this year’s crop. The Indiana Canning Crops Exchange, via secretary John W. Ritter, lists the participating companies and plants across the state and notes Grant county growers in Mathews Upland Fairmount Fowlerton and Sweetser also support the price.
