Butt Elected Head Of County Schools
Russell C. Butt, superintendent of the Brownstown Consolidated Schools, was elected county superintendent of Jackson County by 12 trustees at a special meeting in Brownstown. He fills the unexpired term of the late James H. Tatlock, who died early Friday after serving nearly 28 years. An election for a new term is set for June. Butt will begin immediately and resigned from Brownstown to assume the county post.

Two Arrested Tuesday Fined in City Court
Clarence Ballman age 40 of Seymour was fined 50 dollars and 11 75 costs after pleading guilty to operating a vehicle under the influence. His license suspension for one year was recommended by Mayor Donald L Herwig. Ralston Hauser 27 of Heltonville Al was fined 1 dollar and 10 dollars costs for disorderly conduct charged by Frank King the Chatter Box bartender.

Youth Released From Farm Takes Brownstown Car
George Hopkins 20 of Sparta Michigan, released Tuesday from Indiana state penal farm after a six month sentence for vehicle taking, allegedly drove a 1949 police car from Hildebrand Motor Sales Brownstown, wrecked 1.2 miles east of the county line, and was captured in Bedford. He faces Jackson Circuit Court charges for the Brownstown theft.

Two Houston Men Arrested For Illegal Deer Hunting
State conservation officers using two way radios arrested two Houston men Tuesday night for illegal deer hunting in Brown county. Donald Fish and Norman Brown were fined 115 dollars each in Nashville Justice of the Peace Court. They faced charges of hunting without licenses, killing a deer in the closed season, and shooting from a highway.

Barkman Named Brown Marshal in Brownstown
William Barkman of Browns town will become Brownstown marshal January 1 succeeding Cletus Sneed. He is a former county sheriff and deputy sheriff and Jackson Circuit Court bailiff, appointed by the Browns town board. The board plans 10200 from the state revolving fund for a water and sewer project, with bond issuance and contract could start at the February meeting. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 PM from Haverly Funeral Home in Mitchell for Pvt. Milton Hancock Jr. 22 former Mitchell High School basketball star killed in Korea on October 15. Accidents Claim Lives On Icy Highway Near Medora
Sergeant William Bibb and his five year old son Wendell were transferred to Camp Atterbury after a Tuesday morning crash on U S Road 50 near Medora in which Mrs Bibb died. William Kindred died at the scene driving a Spear Lumber Co truck loaded with 5000 feet of red oak. Mrs Bibb, 28, was killed in the car crash bound from Fort Knox to Fort Bliss. Two other accidents occurred earlier on the icy stretch.
