Crash Near Medora Kills Bedford Boy and Injures Mother
A six year old boy, Donald Robert Peterson, died and his mother Elizabeth Peterson, 34, is in critical condition after a 5:35 PM collision on U S Road 50 near Medora. William Robert Peterson, 35, escaped injury as his sedan struck a protruding part of a truck. The family had been returning from Brownstown where Mr Peterson works as a government farm loan representative. The accident investigator was State Police officer Lawrence Conway.

Continuance Postpones City Disorder Case for New Mayor
John O Patrick and Roger Smith face disorderly conduct charges after a tavern disturbance on Indianapolis avenue. Trial was delayed as prosecutor John M Lewis sought a continuance for a conflicting engagement. North Vernon to Return Equipment to Seymour Pumper Truck
Seymour officials will receive back their loaned pumper fire truck from North Vernon on Thursday. North Vernon recently acquired a new 500 gallon per minute pumper, repaired its old unit, and lent the smaller truck after Freeman Field deliveries allowed it. The exchange was confirmed in a letter from North Vernon Mayor Howard Daringer thanking Seymour for the aid and cooperation.

County Youth Corn Champion Wins Special 4-H Scholarship
Howard Kuehn of Grassy Fork township a Tampico High School senior, receives a Purdue University School of Agriculture scholarship for exceptional 4-H work. Former Crothersville Resident Dies in Indianapolis
Mrs. Alma Sparks Wright Rybolt, 115 West Arizona Street Indianapolis, a former Crothersville and Seymour resident, died early today in the state capital. She was married to Edgar Wright, later to Arthur T. Rybolt, and is survived by three sons Charles Eugene and Clarence Wright, all of Indianapolis, a daughter Mrs. Roy Downs of North Vernon, a Crothersville sister, and two brothers. Funeral arrangements unknown.

Medora Man Arrested For Drunken Driving
Pryce Wayt of Medora Indiana was charged in Jackson Circuit Court at Brownstown with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was arrested late Tuesday on U S Road 50 five miles west of Seymour driving a 1930 model coupe headed west. Officer Lawrence Conway and Glen Robert Gill made the stop.

Sea Monster Sighted Off Santa Clara After Collision
On December 30 1947 the Grace Line steamer Santa Clara sighted a snake like sea monster about 30 feet off the starboard bow 118 miles east of Cape Lookout while en route from New York to Cartagena. The creature showed a 35 foot visible length and 30 to 40 square feet of blood stained water around it as the ship passed. the head measured about two and a half feet across. The monster appeared brown and smooth with no fins or protrusions.
