Local motorists reserve special plates for Seymour clients

About 600 Seymour motorists have reserved special plates at the Seymour License Bureau as New Year opening draws near. The office will be open 9 to 1 on New Year’s Day for reservations only, then January 2 begins regular sale of 1973 plates. End-of-month and quarterly deadlines apply by last name initials. Brownstown Branch also opens January 1 with 8:30 to 5 hours.

Jumbo Jet Crashes in Everglades With 167 Aboard

An Eastern Air Lines Lockheed L1011 TriStar en route from New York to Miami crashed in the Everglades near the Tamiami Trail. At least 66 survivors were reported as rescue teams using helicopters and airboats searched the marshy area. Dozens of bodies were observed. few parts of the aircraft remained intact.

Ambulance Service Shifts to Med-Aid in Jackson County

Jackson County residents must call 522 1400 for ambulance service starting January 1 1973. Med-Aid Services Inc headed by Bruce Ross takes over after midnight December 31 with dispatch from Seymour. The firm will serve all areas including Brownstown Crothersville and western Jackson County with crews and a new Browns town building under construction.

Two Injured In Crash On U S 50 Near County Line

State police investigated four traffic accidents Friday night. Two people were injured in a two car crash on U S 50 near the Jackson Jennings County line. Charles D. Kriete and Clar ence E. Stout were involved. Kriete cited for driving left of center. Emma Stout injured. Damages estimated at 2000 and 1400 dollars.

Swearing-In Ceremony Set for Brownstown Courthouse

Officials elected in the November 7 general election will be sworn in at 1 p.m. Monday in the Brownstown courthouse court room. Judge Robert R. Brown will preside. Oath takers include Jesse Lucas Democrat county surveyor Harry Schepman Democrat county commissioner Ear A. Goecker Republican county commissioner Keith Burkholder Democrat county coroner Lynn Roberts Jr. Republican county auditor and Richard Isaacs Democrat county treasurer. Isaacs will be sworn in Monday but assume duties January 1 1974 when County Treasurer Allen Bain Harbaugh’s four-year term ends. The public is invited.

Brownstown License Bureau to Close for Audit

The Browns town license bureau will close January 8 for an audit by the State Board of Accounts. If the audit concludes as planned, the bureau will reopen January 10 at Wells Building on West Commerce Street in Brownstown under director J A Ob Green. Staff includes Anne Easton and Barbara Franklin, with Marilyn Reedy as a short term employee and substitute.
