Jackson County Set for Inaugural Ball for Governor Whitcomb

Thirty two Jackson County couples plan to attend the inaugural ball for Governor elect Edgar D Whitcomb in Indianapolis on January 13. The event includes two sections at Murat Temple and Indiana Roof with orchestras Russ Carlyle and Glenn Miller, themes Seven Flags Over Indiana and Back Home in Indiana, and formal dress by invitation only. Whitcomb will be sworn in at the statehouse rotunda after the ceremonies.

Travelers Warn Indiana of Cold Wave and Snow

The Weather Bureau issued a travelers warning for all of Indiana and a cold wave warning for tonight. Temperatures may drop up to 30 degrees by Tuesday morning with freezing rain and snow expected this afternoon and continuing into Tuesday. Lows range from zero to seven above in the north, four to 10 above in the midstate, eight to 12 above in the south as the arctic pattern persists. White River at Rockford stood 13.2 feet at 7 am, after cresting at 13.6 feet Sunday evening, just below flood stage.

Jackson County officials Earl Goecker and Clarence Pottschmidt will be sworn in at 1 p m Wednesday at the county courthouse in Brownstown. State Rep John M. Lewis will officiate with Lynn Roberts Jr present. refreshments served. public invited. Peggy Russell, 19, Mitchell, was shot to death Sunday when a 20 gauge shotgun discharged as her brother pulled it from behind a cabinet.

Youth Injured In Crash Car Train Wreck Reported

City police investigated three traffic incidents over the weekend including a car train collision on Fourth Street Road at the Baltimore and Ohio Chesapeake and Ohio crossing. Joseph D. Corne 16 was hospitalized for a head laceration after a two car crash on South Walnut street at 10 58 p m Sunday. Ronald Wells 24 escaped injuries when his northbound car collided with an eastbound passenger train at the crossing with damages to his 1960 model car and minor train damage. A second two car crash on Tipton Street west of O Brien Street led to a reckless driving charge against Gary R. Doyle 27 with damages to both vehicles.

Corn Banquet Set At B town School

A group of 39 Jackson County 10 Acre Corn contestants will attend the 16th annual Corn Achievement Banquet hosted by the Brownstown Chamber of Commerce and Agrico of Seymour at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday January 14 in the Brownstown Central High School cafeteria.

Purge of Voter List To Start In Jackson County

Mrs. Donald E. Manion will oversee the purge of voter registration beginning Monday January 6. Voters who did not vote in 1964 or 1968 will be removed and may be restored by mail using a form and return card. Purges, done every four years, update lists for moves or deaths and require several weeks to complete.

Burglars Take $10,000 in Coins and Jewelry

Indianapolis police report burglars stole a safe containing coins and jewelry valued at $10,000 from the home of businessman Russell S. Hazlett over the weekend. Hazlett discovered the loss upon returning home Sunday.

Special Board Session Sets Public Hearing on Lynn Street Improve

Seymour board of public works and safety will meet at 10 a m Tuesday in special session to hear the Lynn street improvement assessment roll from Mc Donald street to Wendemere Drive. Assessments will be charged to property owners and the city with a decision to sustain or modify after the hearing. A rate of 7.60 per running front foot is set as the proportionate cost. The board is also expected to approve promotions within the city police department including an assistant chief detective and three lieutenants.

Stolen 1967 Chevelle Abandoned West of Uniontown

A Marion County theft victim's car was found along Ind 250 two miles west of Uniontown early today. The 1967 Chevelle had engine and parts removed and seats stolen. thieves apparently planned to burn it but fled. State police and highway crews investigated. owner notified after recovery.
