Crothersville inaugurates monthly Town Hall meetings with the new town trustees presiding. Citizens are invited to bring local problems and ideas to the board, aiming to improve communication and implement economical public programs. The first regular meeting is January 2, with the first public Town Hall on January 16.
Seymour Lions Club members enjoyed a technicolor movie about Banff National Park at their Elks Club meeting. E. S. Cummins served as program chairman and introduced the presentation.
The Seymour Public Library resumes its regular Saturday Story Hour at 10 o clock this week. The event will be supervised by Mrs. Alvera Shaw after Friday morning sessions during the Christmas season. Phil Hamilton, the chief librarian, announced the change.
Mail service at Seymour post office will be partially halted on New Year’s holiday Monday. Only special delivery mail and perishable packages will be delivered. lobby boxes serviced. one street collection in the afternoon. downtown business and most offices closed. Officials note the New Year will be observed with services, watch parties, and religious observances as the new term begins.
The Seymour auto license bureau at Third and Chestnut streets will be open daily 8 30 to 5 00, closing at 3 00 on Saturday afternoons. It will be closed from Friday 5 00 p m until Tuesday 8 30 a m for the New Year weekend.
Thirteen Jackson county burley growers voting Thursday at the ASC office in the courthouse basement joined nationwide supporters of continued rigid government production and marketing controls for burley and other tobaccos. Indiana and Maryland type growers backed three year marketing quotas. Pennsylvania cigar-filler types mostly opposed. Burley totals showed strong approval with a 95 percent favorable majority. County turnout included 55 farms registered. overall voter eligibility included all shares in tobacco crops.
Karl Hackman trustee in bankruptcy of the A H Aahlbrand Co filed a report to Paul A. Pfister referee noting only two bids received December 16 for machinery and equipment at sale. Seymour National Bank holds a mortgage on all property and no sale completed. A creditors meeting is set for 11 o'clock Friday January 6 at the Federal Building New Albany.
Seymour council plans a 2.2 million dollar revenue bond sale on January 24 to finance a sewer improvement project. Objections by property owners and court review could delay progress, with state pressure for a disposal plant and compliance already in place.
More than 500 Good Will dinners were served at Bethel A M E church on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Cash donations totaled 347.79 with 202 for Thanksgiving. Over 260 meals were served each day with turkeys vegetables and toys donated by local groups.

Indiana Democrat Matthew Welsh announces his campaign staff with John Hurt as campaign manager and Marshall Hanley as state chairman. Miss Eudora Kelley is vice chair, Mrs. Jack H. Mankin secretary, and Joseph Barr treasurer. O'Conner heads efforts in four counties and will resign as U S commissioner to work for Welsh. Campaign HQ planned for Indianapolis.
Annual installation of officers of Jackson Lodge No. 146, Free and Accepted Masons, was held at the Masonic Temple. William Reading installed as worshipful master, succeeding Luther Mobley. Other officers elected and appointed included Robert D. Norrell, Oren K. Schneck, Harry McMillan, Henry G. Massman, J. Robert Klein, and trustees Charles R. Brown and K. L. Fosbrink. Refreshments followed. attendance was strong.
President Eisenhower, in casual wear, works on a near final draft of his January 5 State of the Union Message at the Key West naval base. He walked to his office with aide Kevin McCann and Miltion Eisenhower. He is recuperating from a heart attack and plans to stay until January 8.
A Public Health Service report shows more than half of the Salk polio vaccine shipped to private physicians and health departments remains unused. Surgeon General Leonard Scheele urges rapid use where available to support mass inoculation and reserve second shots.
A mass of cold air moves over Indiana with tonight's low below 15 degrees, far under Thursday's 26. Saturday will be fair and cold, then a warmup Sunday. Thursday's high reached 49, and five day temperatures trend near normal with little precipitation. Northern and southern Indiana normal highs around 42 and lows near 24.
The Jackson County Red Cross asks Seymour residents to donate used clothing toys musical instruments fabric scraps buttons yarn and similar items for projects at Muscatatuck State School Butlerville. Mrs Francis Myers volunteer supply chair will arrange pickups by phone at 196.
Work crews around the clock fill a levee gap near Yuba City, stopping Feather River floodwaters. The disaster toll climbs as 19 Yuba City victims are joined by others across Eureka, Santa Cruz, Colfax, Tulare, and additional counties, with 230 homes destroyed and 1,200 damaged.
O. B. Perkins of Madisonville Ky will preach his first sermon Sunday at the Seymour Church of Christ replacing Ronald Bartanen who resigns to lead the Old Pekin congregation. Services at 10 30 a m and 7 p m. Bartanen has served about 22 months at Seymour located Fourth and Poplar. He and his wife and their four month old son Ricky reside at 4134 Calvin Boulevard. The church founded about 1914 has 65 members and the remodeled edifice has housed them for about three years.
Indiana faces its first labor strike of 1956 as 3 200 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers members at three Mallory plants in Indianapolis vote to walk out on January 4. Union and Mallory seek a new contract after talks stalled on December 12 over a proposed production standard and wage demands.
Governor George N. Craig proclaims January as March of Dimes Month in Indiana and urges support for the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis fund drive. He notes Salk polio vaccine arrives too late for many Americans needing ongoing care to overcome paralysis.
The National Safety Council projects 1955 traffic fatalities will reach 38 500, a 5 500 rise from 1954, based on 34 690 deaths in the first 11 months. Emergency enforcement and National Guard calls were ordered in several states for a dangerous New Year period.
