Ice covered all exposed surfaces since Christmas night as warmer temperatures froze drizzle into new ice. Traffic and pedestrian movement were paralyzed and rural carriers faced delays on routes in Seymour as cross country buses crawled and trains ran hours behind. Despite above freezing, ice remains thick and motorists moved with extreme caution with no accidents reported. Not continued on page 6 column 4.

Eight Die in Columbus Indiana House Fire
Eight persons perished in a Columbus Ind residence fire on the north side, including five children aged three months to nine years. The England family members were identified as Joseph eighteen Ruth nineteen Roger three months Opal thirty Willis Bernice Dale Norma Jane. Kay England and a nephew were not immediately identified. The fire destroyed the home of Mr and Mrs Kay England.

Judgment Paid in Bartholomew Suit Over Auto Crash
Charles Murray received a $7,000 judgment plus $250.83 interest and $77.60 costs from the Bartholomew circuit court jury verdict against Oran H. Stradley and Calvin L. Tuncil. Local Officer Seriously Hurt On Nazi Front
Lieutenant James F. Bud Beldon Jr. of East Tipton Street Road is reported seriously wounded in Germany on December 12. This marks a second injury since August, with no details given and letters to him addressed care of the New York postmaster. Freeman Field to transfer 600 aviation trainees to permanent status
About 600 on the line trainees at Freeman Field will move to permanent party status effective January 1, 1945.
