Dr. T. D. Rhodes of Lexington Kentucky escaped a gunfire hijack on state road 31 near Seymour after the would‑be robbers followed from Indianapolis. They sought tires strapped to the rear of his Hudson and fired at the vehicle before fleeing toward a lit farm house for refuge.
