State police investigate a Friday night burglary at Mrs. Viola Brown’s Seymour R1 home near Reddington. An intruder entered through a bathroom window while no one was inside, fled when heard, stealing a shotgun and a rifle and rifling a dresser for watches. A dark colored Volkswagen with no lights was seen nearby.

Jackson County Gifts Donated To Muscatatuck Hospital
A total of 1613 Christmas gifts valued at about 2450 dollars were collected in Jackson County for residents of the Muscatatuck State Hospital and Training Center. Mrs Josephine Brock county chairman said the last gifts were delivered to the hospital at Butlerville on Christmas Eve. The county quota was 546 gifts with Jackson County keeping a high collection as others statewide dropped.

Richard Isaacs of Seymour R5 will assume the Jackson County treasurer post on January 1 1974 succeeding Allen Bain Harbaugh who completes two terms. License Plate Sales Start Across Counters in 1974 Push
1974 license plates go on sale Wednesday January 2 with reserved plates distributed New Year’s Day at the Brownstown branch from 1 to 4 pm. Seymour branch will be open next Wednesday after a Tuesday closure. Governor Bowen proclaims Monday as employee appreciation day. Brownstown hours 8:30 am to 5 pm except Saturdays 8:30 to noon. Seymour 9 am to 5 pm weekdays and 9 am to 1 pm Saturdays. Deadlines for new plates mirror 1973: passenger cars owned by businesses due by January 31, other commercial vehicles by February 28. private passenger plates depend on owner name initial.

Scipio Youth Fatally Shot During Farm Groundhog Hunt
A 16 year old Scipio boy, Martin L. Shepard, died after a 12 gauge shotgun discharged while he and another youth, William Bowman, investigated a groundhog on the Robert Amick farm. The weapon slipped from Shepard as he tried to start a tractor, the gun fired, and pellets struck his face. The incident near Jennings County farm was under Seymour state police post investigation with coroner and county sheriff officials. Funeral arrangements were pending through Barkes Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus.

France to End Vernon Forks Service Dec 31
Marvin H. France Jr plans to leave as executive secretary of the Vernon Forks Conservancy District when the year ends. The district board led by L. E. Malcomb will assume management and administrative duties starting January 1, 1974, after salary for the post was not adopted in the 1974 budget.
