Dense Fog Triggers Weekend Auto Crash Wave Across County
Dense fog and a thin ice layer on roads caused a weekend crash wave across Seymour area. About 10 accidents occurred from 5 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, with Jackson and Monroe counties reporting incidents including a fatal crash southeast of Bloomington. The Seymour post toll for 1958 reached 64 deaths in 53 crashes, two more than all of 1957. One fatality, 52 year old Gilbert Todd of Sanders, died after a two car collision on Harrell Road, while multiple injuries were reported including jaw, skull and limb injuries to several Bloomington residents. Weekend Crashes Hurt Man and Damaged Cars
Roscoe Ross 72, of Paris Crossing AL, injured Sunday when his 1947 sedan was rear ended at East Tipton and O Brien streets. Findley 52, of 222 Carter Boulevard, driving a 1955 convertible, sustained $150 damage. Police reported brakes failure as cause. A second crash Saturday at Broadway and East Tipton caused $35 damage to Naomi Ruth Hill's 1953 sedan. Lawrence McMillan 53, of Columbus A6, was involved with Hill's car after a claimed curb pull.

Temperatures are expected to drop across Jackson County and Indiana tonight and remain colder into the new year with a warming trend later. Weekend lows reached 24 and 21 degrees with dense fog freezing on windshields and slick roads in spots. Fire destroys three acres of state forest near Starve Hollow
