Holmes Empson age 80 near Wallonia was listed as slightly improved today after bronchial pneumonia and a critical condition yesterday. Funeral services for his wife Mrs Empson age 76 who died yesterday morning will be held at Driftwood Christian church at 11 a m Saturday with Rev Ora Cox officiating. Mrs W F Turmail of Wallonia met A H Empson of Depew Okla who came to Wallonia due to his mother’s death and his father’s illness.
The 11 year old Wilhelmina Evelyn Smith of Oakland vanished with ex convict Robert McClellan three weeks ago. California police broadened searches as welfare worker Emma J. Spence revealed the pair had stayed at her home and McClellan presented Wilhelmina as his sister.
George Clark from the office of Frederick Schortemeier urged prompt plate applications. He noted Indiana residents may travel to neighboring states requiring 1928 plates after January 1 and warned of possible arrests for late or missing plates. Miss Pauline McCord urged immediate application to avoid January congestion and ensure smooth processing.

Harold Jackson and Claude Edwards both of Kurtz were fined one dollar and costs in Columbus Justice Cooper's court for operating a motor vehicle with improper plates. They were arrested after refusing to explain their presence in Hope and later claimed the car. Relatives from Kurtz aided their release after officials determined the car was not stolen.
In Los Angeles on December 29 Gregory Yanda a 44 year old writer faced deportation after allegedly threatening to kill actress Pola Negri and himself when rejected. Officers said Yanda had been a Bolshevist educator in Russia in 1921 and was smuggled into the United States via Mexico in 1923 following Negri's rejection of a submitted scenario.
Daytona Beach, December 29 United Press reports the Brock-Schlee endurance flight began at dawn but proved unsafe due to heavy load. The monoplane Ride of Detroit taxied four miles along the beach before lift off and returned after five minutes aloft. A new propeller will be installed for another attempt, possibly tomorrow.
Loyal Lydias of Christian church hold a food sale on Saturday December 31 at 1000 in the former Steinwedel Building. Proceeds support church missions.

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Drinkenburg aged 60 were conducted at White Creek church Wednesday at 1 30 PM by Rev. Walter Warl. She was laid to rest in White Creek cemetery and remembered as a devoted church member and wife of farmer Henry Drinkenburg.

United Press reports that no trace of Mrs Frances W Graysons missing amphibian plane Dawn was found as destroyer Sturtevant and coast guard vessels completed a search south of 44 degrees latitude within 70 miles of Sable Island. Coast guard boats plan to extend southward while Sturtevant and Mahan sweep east and south of the island.
Indianapolis dispatch reports Senator James H. Watson of Indiana will not testify before the Marion county grand jury probing political corruption. Watson said at the Congress hotel in Chicago he would leave for Indianapolis Sunday night and did not expect to testify.
Dr. W. P. Dearing president of Oakland City College condemned college courses that defy or contradict religion in a speech to state church executive officers. He warned such courses provoke personal crises and erode morals among students, urging religious-backed alternatives.
Miss Malinda Vondielingen, 35, died at Madison Monday. Funeral services were held at George Vondielingen’s home in Sauers Wednesday at 1 PM then at Sauers Church at 2 PM by Rev J Th Destinon. Burial followed in Sauers Cemetery. She was born near the church and was a faithful member.

Governor Henry S. Johnston defeats insurgent legislature as the senate acting as a court of impeachment adjourns to the 1929 regular session. Earlier, lawmakers threatened a special session to impeach Johnston.
Indianapolis Dec. 20. John G. Brown of Monon, former president of the Indiana Farm Bureau Federation, was put forward by friends as a possible Republican candidate for governor. His farm leadership and legislative service in 1900 and 1911 are noted.

William Edward Hickman awaiting arraignment for Marion Parker murder confessed to a second killing. He claimed Ivy Toms druggist was killed during a Christmas Eve 1926 robbery. Mrs. Toms identified Hickman and Hunt as the robbers, Hunt denying ties at first but later confessing to the holdups. Willoughby, Hickman’s ally, was arrested in Alabama as police pursue exact involvement details.
In the Rose Hill pharmacy holdup on Christmas Eve 1926 two Santa Claus masked robbers shot Policeman James Oliver and Ivy Toms. Toms died December 28 1926. Mrs Toms identified both Hunt and Hickman as the bandits.
