Directors vote to suspend business all day Thursday for New Year's observance. All lines of business will close for the day except grocery stores and meat markets which will close at noon. Merchants had urged adherence to the usual holiday closing. The association asks full cooperation.
Funeral services for Earl Thompson son of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Thompson will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 15 in Trinity Methodist church. The service will be conducted by Rev C J Moeller assisted by Rev Golden A Smith with burial in Riverview cemetery after he died Saturday afternoon from a fractured skull after being struck by a locomotive in the Baltimore and Ohio yards at North Vernon.
The Seymour Basketball Boosters announce a business meeting and pep session at Shields gym next Tuesday evening December 30. Members should prepare for a Manual game and attend the yell practice led by Carrie C Aufderheide, secretary.
Local business leaders and representatives from New Business Men’s Association plan a meeting in Seymour to urge Southeastern Express Co to retain its local office. They aim to persuade Interstate Public Service officials and company executives after learning all branch offices may be abandoned between Louisville and Indianapolis. A Seymour committee traveled to Indianapolis to press for talks with executives.

Miss Carrie C Aufderheide, secretary, says the club will display strong support as membership has more than doubled and Seymour rises with Indiana cities in basketball backing.
Rev. A. A. Cohn newly called pastor of the First Baptist church has influenza and is bedridden. The church opening services scheduled for Sunday were postponed to the following Sunday morning and evening. Rev. T. C. Smith filled the morning pulpit. no evening service was held. Cohn improving but confined to bed.
The Brotherhood of Railroaders will meet Wednesday afternoon at 2 30 in the hall. New officers must attend for installation.

A Dodge roadster driven by a young man from near Kurtz, believed to be Scott, skidded on a road near Bell's Ford Sunday afternoon and struck a roadside tree. The front left fender, axle and frame were badly bent and steering gear damaged. Williams wreck car towed it to the city for repairs. Scott, who works for a bridge construction company south of Seymour, was uninjured. The car remained upright in the crash.
Clarence Hager, county champion watermelon grower, celebrated the holiday by eating melons saved from his summer crop. He kept about a dozen melons buried in a hay mow to protect them, then shared them at his Christmas dinner in Columbus Indiana.

Indianapolis December 29 Rastmus Clark of Danville Ind claimed the body of his son George eighteen shot and killed last night by Police Sergeant Ralph Dean during an arrest attempt. Raymond Boyer nineteen Clark companion held at jail on robbery charge. The pair were found near a holdup reported by four negroes. Dean fired when Clark allegedly tried to fire but pistol plunger failed to explode. Clark’s abdomen was hit. George Clark had a troubled record and caused worry to his family.

The Reliance Manufacturing Company plant on South Chestnut street runs at full force with 165 steady employees and a need for 35 more. Last week the plant closed for a day and a half for Christmas, and management aims to push as much work as possible before January 1. Noble Gresham, the manager, notes sufficient orders to last several months at full capacity.
In Logansport Indiana authorities report a grim multiple shooting at the Henry Baffler home ten miles north. Henry Baffler 69 and his daughter Viola 3 were killed inside. Two more bodies, wife Catherine and son John 23, were found outside. A missing Mrs Emma Trohbaugh is the mother of the child. A note found in the snow hints at motive amid domestic trouble.
In Indianapolis on December 29 the First Moravian Church was destroyed by flames causing an estimated $30,000 loss. Two firefighters, treated for smoke inhalation, were released from hospital. The fire’s origin is undetermined as 56 other recent blazes linked to overheated stoves and thawing pipes with torches occurred amid high wind and severe cold.
